Im talking about any game that lets you choose the gender of your character, Fallout 3, Dragon age, Mass Effect, ect.

Its a curious question, and ive heard some people say that they've heard statistics saying how most players of one gender prefer to play as the other in a game.

To make it simpler, which do you choose to play as on your FIRST playthrough of a game, and why you do.

Edit: Just added three new options, thank tahrey for giving you more choices.

Male, because I'm a man. I want my first playthrough to have a character reflecting me. Or at least something I think would be how I would be in that world.

Male, because it's easier for me to roleplay.

I did have a hearty laugh at option 3 though, so thank you for that :D

Female .. cause I am one. Though I almost always do a second play through as male .. except on Mass Effect. Compared to femshep, the maleshep's voice-acting was terrible.

This is off the topic, but this always perplexes me. I honestly don't see how Mark Meer is any better or worse than Jennifer Hale in Mass Effect (romance scenes being the exception; Hale wins that).

I feel the same, but i think the main reason people feel that way is that he does sound like a grizzled generic war soldier, although i think both of them do exceptionally well voice acting for the game.

Female, easier to relate to my own gender... at least when the character legitimately comes off as such instead of a guy with boobs.

I felt he was really lacking the emotion. I don't know how to put it exactly, but I felt like Hale put a lot more into the lines. Then again, this is just opinion.

Indeed. I see Meer get a lot of criticism for "he has no emotion!" but I call BS on that every time. He simply has a different approach. Meer only utilizes emotion when he needs to (see: Tali romance) and remains stoic in most conversation (as a soldier might). Hale uses emotion more frequently, but unfortunately it can be misplaced.

Each has their pros and cons.

Dude I have the most experience with it. hehe
but I understand why people play as chicks. If you got to play a 80 game, whose's ass are you willing to stare at more?

Sorry to get off topic a little here, but i never did the tali romance, as on my first playthrough it was because of those pesky ass shots on Miranda XP and on the second I chose Garrus, because he was a good character [almost chose Thane though]. How did Mark Meer act?

I was tempted to go after Miranda, but god save me Tali is too cute.

I usually pick female, and I'm a dude. Sexy sleepwear aside (I hope it's still in New Vegas ;p) I actually have more fun roleplaying a girl. My badass renegade Shepard with black lipstick is one of my favorite characters ever. Playing evil dudes is fun too, but an evil/renegade/whatever female is just a tad bit more awesome to me.

I always play as female if I get the option to do so. In many of the games I play, I only get to play as a male, so being able to play as my own gender is always nice. Totally didn't choose FemShep in Mass Effect just for kinky lesbian blue alien sex or anything.
