Well, I'm a girl, so it's always a nice bonus for me when I have the option of playing a woman, and I always take that opportunity when it's presented to me. It's even better if I have the option of getting it on with a hot blue alien space babe or a spunky redheaded French Orlesian bard in the process.

...What?

I say I learn more towards choosing male characters. It's simply because I like to roleplay with my male characters more... :/

What do you mean, "what"? Have confidence if your stance; it's a stance that more girls should adopt and is definitely supported by the majority of the male population.

OT: Female. If I'm going to stare at a fictional animated character for an extended amount of time, it better be a impossibly physically attractive member of the opposite sex. Damn you, Oblivion and Demon's Souls, for making your characters look so not-impossibly-good-looking!

Im talking about any game that lets you choose the gender of your character, Fallout 3, Dragon age, Mass Effect, ect.

Its a curious question, and ive heard some people say that they've heard statistics saying how most players of one gender prefer to play as the other in a game.

To make it simpler, which do you choose to play as on your FIRST playthrough of a game, and why you do.
I pick Male, but mostly due to the fact that I'm a male myself and I just don't prefer playing as the other gender.

On my first I play-through I generally try to roleplay myself, which means I choose male.

I play female, what would you rather stare at, a guy? Or a girl?
Even as an asexual I really don't want to stare at a guy running around.

Female. I find it easier to identify with characters of my own gender. I almost never play as a male in games unless I'm forced to. It's not that it's a big deal in and of itself, but why would I pick an option that I can't quite resonate with as much when a better option is available?

Varies. In fact, just last week I was home for a fall break from my college, and I played Reach for the first time. I decided that because the option was there, I would play as a woman, and also for the fact there was one other Female spartan in the whole series (game wise, unless I missed something...) so I felt like adding a bit of diversity.

Depends on the game. If abilities, options or equipment are restricted to one gender, then I usually decide based on that. Otherwise it depends on my mood, the game's setting and aesthetic and what type of character I want to make.

Its strange for me. If the game is set in a medieval time, my male/female choice ratio is usually about 4:1. In futuristic games, its more like 2:3.

Though in some cases, when one gender gets special items/quests/events because they are one way, I'll make my decision on that.

In a game where you have customization options, I choose female. Why? The same reason why I had the female character in FF2(j) be fisticuff-fighting monk: BECAUSE I FUCKING CAN

Girl's don't have to be the magic casters in the back row. YAY FOR CUSTOMIZATION!!

Depends on the case.

If, say, the female characters have much better animations or something, I'll go female, but naturally I go male...

Don't care a about gender on the first playthrough, the only thing is the second have the opposite gender.
