The first one is the only one with a story the rest are just the slaughter house.
QFT. I played the first, beat it in 10 hours, then played on the hardest setting because after enjoying the story, I wanted a murder fest. By the time GoW2 came out, it didn't have a story, and I couldn't even bring myself to try anything more than half-way through the game on normal, it got boring.

As was said before, you pretty much nailed it. I was going to start this very same thread two days ago (when I finished GoW3 for the second time), but there's really no competition.

1 was the only one with a cogent story and somewhat-deep and well-constructed characters, whereas 2 eliminated any emotion/thought involved (Me Kratos, me angry, rawr) and introduced time-travel. Time travel. I could go on and explain all the reasons why this is bat-shit retarded and makes no effing sense whatsoever, but you already know. 3 did try to make the best of the total garbage that was 2, and for what it's worth, I think they did a pretty decent job considering.

I know this is off topic but what did you think of BioShock 2's storyline in comparison to the first? (disregard this if you haven't played it) Nobody I know really has a passion for gaming stories and fewer still understand the underlying themes and intricacies of BioShock's Ayn Rand inspired philosophy. I can't help but feel that BioShock 2 was slightly contrived; while it was a generally great game I felt Sofia Lamb was too... talkative. There was no mystery about her and after you've finished the first level you've heard almost everything she has to say in the game, every other time she speaks she just repeats the same speech over and over with different wording. There was also no emotional connection with Elanor and Delta, you only pursued her because the game dictated you must. (game dictation being something BioShock 1 made you extensively question) There are other things but I'm ranting so I'll shut up. Anyway just wanted the opinion of someone who really had a passion and understanding for game plots. (actually maybe I should make a thread about this)

The first God of War is the best because it showed us that power isn't everything and the human mind is a fragile thing.

I warms me to know that other people share the same enmity for 2.

GoW 2 was so loaded with nonsense. The time travel was just the final insult. On another note, Kratos was so skewed and easily manipulated throughout the whole game that I wonder if the developers were just writing in some inside joke of theirs. I feel as if the player was manipulated the whole time, what with Kratos completely changing from 1 to 2 and blindly rampaging across the world, never truly considering his orders.
