Not sure. No Health System is realistic. A med kit can't heal severe wounds, and running in the corner and sucking your thumb certainly won't heal a shotgun blast in five seconds.

I like regenerative, health packs just don't do it for me. Because then you have to have a health bar, and it's less realistic.
So regenerating health just by waiting it out is more realistic?

each system has its ups and down. if you want realistic, every time you are shot you should have to limp your way to the nearest hospital and wait for a doctor to treat you.
You have ore control with health packs, and it tends to be harder to heal in games. Regeneration makes it easier, you don't ahve to look for health packs.

Assuming by 'Neither' you mean you get shot and there's nothing to do about it, and by 'Both' you mean Halo's original recharging shield plus health packs, I'd have to go with Regen, at least in single player. If the game in intense enough, you (Read: I) don't want to have to worry about pressing health buttons to try to stay alive while trying to keep others from staying as such.

I vote portable med-packs. Left 4 Dead pulled this off nicely. You can heal whenever you want, but you need to do it manually. No running over a specific spot as you strafe around the room unloading your clips. No hiding behind a bush because your vision is too blurry.

Normal healthpack pickups are my choice of standard health replenishment. It makes you fight harder and more creatively when you are super low on HP. All self-regenerating health bars does is make you sit around and do nothing. WOO!! you're playing your game hard-core now!

I vote for the Battlefield Bad company approach where there are health packs but some classes can heal themselves with the Life-2 needle thing

Matters entirely on the game. Health packs work in some situations, regeneration in others, neither in a few more, both in the rest. Health packs adds to game play the concept of resource management, and a reward for exploration, etc. Better for less realistic, more pulpy or stylized games (Sometimes, not always). Regeneration is slightly more realistic, as it feels like if the bullets didn't kill you, you can go on as endorphines kick in. Is it very realistic? Not at all, but its better then walking over a red cross and your wounds magically knitting. In some games, the point is for you to be a badass who just doesn't die, via magic, a special suite, superpowers, whatever. In really wild situations, you use both effectively. And then, some games try to go the extra mile for realism, and explore more unique gameplay mechanics: VATs in Fallout 3, and the Cthulhu DCotE game come to mind. In this situation, neither system works. All depends on the game.

I prefer it when you don't get your health back and you set everything to hardcore in COD 4. Seriously, that and oldschool mode is so much fun.

I like The hybrid system used in Farcry 2 and Medal of Honor: Airborn where you have a health bar cut into several smaller ones. When you are injured you can regenerate health up to a certain point, and the only way to get you'r health back to full is to use a med-kit/health pack.

Also: When you are injured past a certain point in Farcry 2 you have to stop and watch as you'r character removes a bullet, fixes a dis-located finger/s, or even carturises a wound befor you can get you'r health above critical.

I said med kits. I liked the Left 4 Dead approach, where it takes a while to use it instead of just jumping on one and having full health.

I prefer the team fortress 2 system of health packs and the use of a classes special abilitie(medigun, dispenser, sandvich,etc.). its not meant to be realistic(obviously) and I find it makes the game so much more interesting

its also very fun when you got almost no life left cuz you really have to relie on skillz or luck.

Personally, I prefer regenerative. If you fuck up and run into a whole mess of baddies and manage to kill them all, you're not screwed for the rest of the level.
