But crying during a film? That's so unmanly and irrational.
Lol @ gender stereotypes in a Toy Story vs Spirited Away discussion.

OT: Spirited Away. Toy Story 3 is a wonderful film, but Spirited Away might be the best all around film I've ever seen.

I wouldn't beat someone with a sack of oranges for saying TS3 though.

Well, I haven't seen TS3, but I've seen Toy Story 1 (good) and 2 (meh), and would rank Spirited Away above either of them; so it got my vote.

Anyone who doesn't say Toy Story is wrong.

I'm gonna have to say Spirited Away. Toy Story 3 was great, but it had 2 other films supporting it.

I tend to like standalones more than franchises, so Spirited Away gets my vote

It isn't that there is anything wrong with Toy Story 3, but I really enjoyed Spirited Away. I saw Spirited Away in the theaters something like 5 times due to how much I enjoyed it.

I haven't seen either...

I keep meaning to but then I forget. Of course, I'll have to watch Toy Story 2 as well.

Toy Story 3 got me emotional so it gets my vote. Though i watched spirited away when I was younger so I might not of gotten everything. Maybe I should watch it again?

I thoroughly enjoyed both films but Spirited Away is slightly more enjoyable, for me at least. Just to clarify, I'm not overly versed in Miyazaki's films, I've only seen a few, but of the Miyazaki films I've seen Spirited Away ranks as my favourite.

I've seen both films, and whilst liking them both I'd have to say Toy Story 3. I did find both films excellent, but whilst I can say that the Work of Miyazaki is absolutely brilliant, Pixar really impressed me with the finale to the Toy Story. It's also because I grew up with the first two Toy Story films as well.

Toy Story 3 by a mile, Spirited Away was completely random and nonsensical with no relatable characters or themes whatsoever, just one random creature/place after another. Basically one big acid trip (which isn't my thing).

I don't really thing they are comparable in the sense that they are trying to be two different movies. However, if pushed to pick one, I would pick Spirited Away.
I enjoy the strangeness of it.

I don't really get the hype of Toy Story... Spirited Away has always seemed to be more interesting and exciting to me.

Toy story 3 over spirited away, but only due to the fact that I've grown up with toy story. Looking back now, I remember spirited away from toonami's month of miyazaki. I loved that month to death.

Well, I'm going to say that without a doubt it depends on when the first time you saw either movie was. If you saw Spirited Away when you were a kid, you got treated to an amazing movie, and you're now adding nostalgia into the factor. If you saw Toy Story as a kid you were treated to a pretty good movie that received massive hype and you're still running with the nostalgia.

In my opinion, Spirited Away showed what people could do with a budget and a great imagination. I mean, it cost 1/10[sup]th[/sup] of the price it cost to make Toy Story 3. However, the smaller budget didn't detract from the quality of the movie in any way and it's still one of my most favorite movies of all time.

But yeah, a large portion of this is really just "what movie were you raised on as a child?"

Apples and oranges is the appropriate metaphor here.

Toy Story 3 is one of the best final installments in a trilogy ever
But Spirited Away didn't need two other movies to set up the emotional climax.

TS3 is some of the best 3D animation to date
But Spirited Away's 2D animation is just as spectacular.

TS3 is an imposition of the fantastical over the mundane
Spirited Away is an imposition of the mundane over the fantastical

TS3 won an Oscar for Best Animated Picture
Spirited Away won the second Oscar for Best Animated Picture

I prefer Spirited Away

Spirited Away... haven't heard that name in a while. Is that the one where the kids parents are like... turned into pigs? And she gets transported to some crazy ass Chinese place with a hungry Ghost chasing her around or something? I remeber it fucking my mind when I was a kid.

Toy Story 3 seems more... family oriented, it's fairly simple to understand and all the characters are friendly looking and happy, as well as familiar as it is part of a trilogy.

I (think) I like Spirited Away more but I don't know if it's the movie I am thinking of...
