Portal 2 was very good. Unfortunately there weren't any standout adventure games, except for Last Half of Darkness: Society of the Serpent Moon and Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnarok. I'm not sure if Gray Matter counts as a 2011 release since it was out a bit earlier in Europe so probably not. All of those are contenders. I'll also have to reserve my final judgment until I've played Stacking. If Testament of Sherlock Holmes comes out before the end of the year, that is very likely to get my pick. The game looks fantastic.

I'm sorry, but The Witcher 2 made the list but Gears 3 did not?

And Skyrim is the answer to this question.
Yes, I don't see anything wrong with that, TW2 > GW3.
You state clearly that this post is intended for public opinion, yet a rather obscure PC exclusive RPG overshadows one of the most recognizable and influential series of this console generation? I call shenanigans.
Recognizable yes, influential no. Well at least I hope not lol. More color, less cover kthx.

TW2 is a little bit more than an obscure PC RPG btw.

My vote goes to Portal 2, but i'm sure the overwhelming winner in this forum will be Skyrim.
At the risk of sounding like an obsessive fanboy ready to defend Gears at the drop of a hat, I feel that anyone denying the impact the series has had over this console generation to be just a little silly. The first Gears of War started the online co-op revolution that inspired dozens of games as well as setting the benchmark for how competitive online multiplayer would be held up to. Yeah, sure the first two games had bland color: that doesn't change the fact that they left a significant imprint on this generation of games. Aside from that, I mean to say nothing negative against The Witcher: it just so happens that I think if you asked every person on the face of the world which is more relevant and held up a copy of The Witcher 2 in one hand and Gears of War 3 in the other, the majority would choose Gears of War 3.

...but then again, who cares, it's just an Internet forum poll, I guess my one off comment in a boredom stasis shouldn't have regarded this as the definitive absolute judgement of the opinions of all of mankind that will be recorded in the history books. For that, I apologize.

there are just too many good games to pick really...

but for sakes of the thread

Skyrim>Witcher 2 = Deus ex HR > Uncharted 3= Portal 2 = Arkham City = GoW3

that would probably how my list would go..i just have been having too much fun with alot of those games to really say otherwise.

although with TOR coming out, and the impressive time i had on the beta alone, i might just add that to the list also.

It seems like I have some problems with my eyes.
I can't find Skyward Sword anywhere, jet I see Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3....

*standing ovation*

Hear, hear! I concur! [Insert statement of approval/agreement here]!

The Gears of War series really did have a big impact on the market, solid gameplay, awesome multiplayer (even if filled willed shotgun-rollers) and amazing co-op. As for color scheme, sure the first couple were brown with splashes (large splashes, mind you) of red, but to say the color scheme of the third installment is bland would be complete and utter blasphemy. They did great with improving it, the environments looked vibrant and spectacular (especially towards the end); the game definitely is definitely worthy of the title of GOTY.

Seems like a tread troll thread. Tons of people arguing over what they liked most and declaring it better than everything else.

Fine, I'll play along: Bastion. For what it might have lacked in gameplay mechanics, it set a new bar in presentation that games will be compared to for decades.

Seems like people have completely forgotten Crysis 2. Not that it would make my top games list anyway, but given the obsession here with shooters and the impressive graphics, that seems very odd.

I think any of these will likely be GOTY
Forza Motorsport 4, Batman: Arkham City and Uncharted 3 were all objectively better games than Portal, Deus Ex:HR and The Witcher 2. So trash poll is trash, though that is arguing semantics because we all know Skyrim would win any year of the decade.
Ok Forza 4 is a poor mans Gran Turismo 5 (look, I'm sorry 360ers, it had to be said, its unfortunate, but while the 360 has many a game, it does not have the best racing series, Gran Turismo, Forza 4 isn't bad, but its not better than GT5, besides, as much as I love GT5, it would never be game of the year, last year or this year, so Forza doesn't have a hope).

Arkham City? Maybe should be on the list, but Uncharted 3? Please.

That is your opinion, but I think it's clear that it's a minority opinion.
At the risk of a quote off, you're talking about U3 aren't you? Fine, if many people like it, maybe it should be there, but I don't think it'd win overall, so I didn't include it. Or were you talking about Arkham City?

I 'know' you weren't talking about GT5, because that'd just be silly.

Arkham City should be on there. But hands down, my GotY is Handsinpants, a five finger adventure. If you don't like that, too bad.

Games that are missing from this list:
Skyward Sword, Saint's Row 3, Arkham City.

And those are my top 3 in order. Followed by Portal 2 and Human Revolution, then Skyrim.

Honorable mention: Cathrine. Sure, not a GOTY contender, but I still did enjoy this game.

Skyrim will win because of how overrated it is. Half the fans need to get off their damn high horses, too. It's fucking annoying, it's your opinion, not a fact. Once again, Rage was my favorite of the year, but since it isn't a sequel it apparently doesn't exist.

Where is Saint's Row 3?

It's that or Deus Ex, but they're quite difficult to compare.

I don't think you've quite gotten the hang of how opinions work.
