It's been quite the year.

I'd go with Dark Souls so far, followed shortly by Skyrim, Deus Rx: HR & The Witcher 2. I have high hopes for Skyward Sword, but I doubt it will live up to the precedence set by the aforementioned titles.

Well My choice is skyrim, and the reason I didn't pick minecraft is because it may be the cause of the indie market stagnating(so many direct clones, terraria was good though) terraria is also a contender for me

[sub]which should be on your list... tsk! tsk![/sub]
A shame it is still console exclusive. Having played (and passed... barely) both it and its predecessor I think it would be a lot more popular if it had a PC version.
Nevertheless, the limited edition is probably the best purchase I've made this year :p
Enjoyed every excruciating second spent in that game, its just something about having to be constantly on guard that made me feel a lot more involved throughout the experience. Maybe it's just me but I somehow liked it more when the story was barely there, when desperation was literally oozing out of the surrounding scenery (and what scenery it was 0.0 ). There's just something about a game that refuses to give you a map and at the same time has no reservations to kill you over and over if you happen to go to the wrong place at the wrong game.
Skyrim and Deus Ex were also mouth-watering-ly (English not native language- don't judge :( ) awesome but as pure feeling whilst playing none could compare.
Also the exclusion of any major fuck-ups didn't hurt either (tacked-on boss battles, wavering difficulty, jarring discrepancy in terms of graphical fidelity b/w areas, too short (Witcher 2) ; No I don' count the Blight town fps drops as an issue).

Having said all of that I don't think it will be GOTY anywhere, save maybe Gamespot, seeing as they did pick Demon's Souls for GOTY and they have given it a 9.5, which is more than pretty much any other video games score this year.
Not that it really matters, it will always be my GOTY and in the end I think that's all that's important.
God I love Dark Souls.

P.S. Have to admit though that somewhere deep inside my subconscious I really want to give Saints Row 3 the GOTY, just because of the criminal amount of fun I had while playing that game.

If a game can get from me 70hrs of game play within the first 2 weeks of it's release then it deserves to be Game of the Year. Which Skyrim has.

Skyward Sword, I have been playing it for about 3 hours and I have already had more fun with it than Skyrim. And hooray for the underdog!

Saints Row: The Third by a long shot, mostly because it's amazingly fun and doesn't let silly things like logic and realism hold it back. It's fun, LOTS of fun and that's why it gets 100 of my votes + my car.

Two worlds 2 was pretty good (and approximately 6.37 times better than skyrim) but my favorite game game this year still has to be Cargo: The quest for gravity. Certainly the most well written, and just everything about that game made me love it.
Id like you to elaborate as to what about Two Worlds 2 is better than Skyrim

Anyway, I don't believe that Gears 3, Uncharted 3 or Skyward Sword can hold a candle to Skyrim when it comes to winning GOTY.
Simply because its Skyrim.

Gears 3 & Uncharted 3 are the exact same formula and graphics as the previous entries to the series.

Skyward Sword.. Well.. People are sort of tired of Zelda, me? I am not. I love Zelda and forever will. But critics and reviewers tend to be.. Critical.

Skyrim easily- its the best in the series to date.

It may not have Morrowinds scale, but it has far better gameplay.

Portal 2 for me. Skyrim is good but has flaws, while Portal 2 was kinda a flawless jewel of shear fun in my eyes.

Probably either Skyrim or Portal 2. Most probably Skyrim though, i mean, even in this poll, they have over 50% of the votes.

My personal game of the year would have to be Saints Row the Third. Funnest game i've played in a long time and
The ending where you go after Killbane and Abandon Shaundi was really quite dramatic and touching to me

I'm going to pick the game that is the most fun: Saint's Row the Third. It's super fun in the cinematic singleplayer missions and just as fun roaming around. When you get two players though, awwwwww yeah its so amazing! If you haven't tried co-op yet then go get another person to get the fun to be doubled. The story itself may not be emotional or powerful and the grpahics aren't top notch either, but the superb gameplay makes up for everything. Still have to try the multiplayer too.

Skyrim will win because of how overrated it is. Half the fans need to get off their damn high horses, too. It's fucking annoying, it's your opinion, not a fact. Once again, Rage was my favorite of the year, but since it isn't a sequel it apparently doesn't exist.
Dude, there's no point coming in here just to be a hipster/troll because these are everyone's personal picks. It's not like your going to convince anyone to your point of view acting like that and there's not going to be a prize for winning a random poll. So how about you lighten up?
So I'm a hipster because I find extremist fanboys annoying? Do people even know the meaning of the word, or do they just throw it around? Skyrim is overrated, because it could NEVER live up to the greatest game ever, and saying that doesn't make me a hipster (again, it's called an opinion). If I was a hipster, I'd hate it because it was popular. In reality, I don't care for it because I couldn't get into Oblivion.

Anyway, half of what you said doesn't even make sense. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, and my best friend even loves Skyrim, I'm just saying that all the extremist are annoying and need to shut the hell up. I hate ANY extremist, be it for a game, for religion, against religion, politics... anything.

I'm sorry, but The Witcher 2 made the list but Gears 3 did not?
Yes, because Gears 3 is just another mindless cover based shooter. Third in a series. There is nothing new or interesting about it. The Witcher 2 is an amazing game. But if you have to ask how that's possible, you clearly didn't play the game. No worries, it will be released on Xbox 360 and you'll be able to see why it made the list.

Anyway, I think Skyrim will win. Not because I want it to win, just because it's a TES game. If you can't guess which game I want to win, you seriously need to consider the possibility that you might be stupid :)

Minecraft.

Like a lot of people I burned out on it early on this year, but I started a new world last week to mark the official release and I'm feeling the fun of those early alpha worlds again. Only with extras, like the abandoned mine, full of cave spiders, that's sitting directly where my underground railway is meant to be going...

Which is why Minecraft is awesome. I could build around it, or abandon the line and build in another direction, or go down there with a steel sword, some bread and some torches and try to clear the damn place out one step at a time, or flood the entire network with lava and Kill It Wih Fire! or... Well, you get the idea. There's no NPC telling me to do this, no game design that won't let me do anything else until I've cleared it - it's a pure self-directed personal challenge and all the more satisfying for it.
