I always thought about Robot Chicken whenever Joker said anything.
Funny, I think about Mass Effect whenever Seth Green says anything in Robot Chicken - that's how immersive that game was for me ;)

If we're talking "immersive" as far as overall game world is concerned, then Fallout 3. There's just so much shit to do in that game.

If we're talking "which game has a better/more interesting story, then Mass Effect. Every story-related world in ME kicked ass, whereas the "story" in FO stopped being particularly interesting after Galaxy News Radio. "Wow, you mean I get to follow this robot that does all the work for me, then I get to kill the boss with one shot, then I get to make some sorry-ass choice to decide my fate? Ooooo"

That's fine. For me using a well-known voice artist broke immersion. And I do agree about Colonel Autumn. He was sad for someone with suck an awesome trench coat.

hmm..didn't necessarily like both games much but I'll give Fallout 3 the medal for immersive world and Mass Effect the medal for immersive story.
This. I also think the father element in Fallout 3 creates immersion, as there is the whole lead up inside the Vault with your father then when he leaves, there's that real immersive drive to carry on with the game.

there both pritty non-immersive.
Some people actually like to pay attention to the story in these types of games, just saying.
Some people like to differentiate between "story" and "plot", and between "story" and "immersion". Just sayin'.

Well Mass Effect's story really wasn't compelling I really sunk into that game.

I think it's the animation in Fallout it just felt like a huge awesome shooting gallery.

You know screw it mass effect's story sucked butt compared to other Bioware games damn what happened?

This is actually funny cause i sat down and finished mass effect over the last couple of days and i played fallout 3 to death over the past couple of months. I thought the story of Mass Effect was awesome, but the voice acting kinda kept you at a distance from being really pulled in (and no im not talking about seth green, he did fine haha). To the person taht said fallout 3 was too intimidating to explore fully, stay away from elder scroll games, you wont enjoy them haha. As for which pulled me in more I go with fallout because awhile i spent days playing it i experience real life differently, where i looked at cartons of cigarettes thinking about their value in bottlecaps or whenever seeing a sink or toilet thinking about rads. Nothing in Mass Effect had that effect on me, but that might be because my gameplay logged with fallout 3 was alot higher than with mass effect :p

I actually don't know!

Both created a believable, deep universe. Mass effect was more literary though. Fallout had a story to tell through it's imagery.

Mass Effect hands down.

It had a great story and much better dialogue trees than anything in Fallout. I found myself just talking to people/reading stuff far more in Mass Effect than in Fallout, in which the dialogue always seemed like a means to an end i.e. only really there so you could get quests/buy things.

Also the character interactions in Mass Effect are brilliant, based on conversations I quickly made decisions about which ones I liked and persued further relations with them. In Fallout people kinda just passed you by, it all seemed so impersonal.

Fallout 3 has too clunky gun controls to feel immersive, Me's characters slide all over the place though.

But the ME universe is much more believeable and the dialog options really stick for me.

I've played a little bit of both, and from what I've experienced, I think Fallout 3 is more immersive. Sure, Mass Effect has a better story in my opinion, and being able to hear Commander Shepard's voice is also a plus, but the constant 3rd Person view takes away from that immersion.

Fallout 3, allowing for a first person view, makes you feel that you are the character, not that you're controlling him/her as a virtual puppeteer. So as far as immersion goes, Fallout 3 gets my vote.

There's more in Fallout 3 then in Mass Effect, but they are both immersive and incredible games.

I found Mass Effect put a lot more emphasis on story and character, which ultimately draw me into a game more. It's no surprise to anyone who's read my previous posts around this forum that I enjoyed ME much more than Fallout 3. I found the story a great send-up of classic space operas with unique and well-developed characters, while Fallout 3's story never really hooked me and the dialogue system constantly threw me out of the game with how wooden the voice-acting was. Mass Effect 2's also my most-anticipated game right now. It's not 2010 yet, is it?
