Well, a skilled player plays in a way, where there isn't much room left for an unpredictable factor to work against him/her.

Also, luck does not exist. So there's that.
Call it teh unpredictable element. 90% evasion but getting hit 3 times in a row is unluckiness even if the system isnt really random.
U managed to get 1 out of 10 and testing on animals has PROVED that 9 dead mouses are more than 1 dead mouse

Even in a luck based game like childrens cardgames aka yugioh. a professional player will try to create the most effective combination that reduces the luck of the draw element but luck will always exist
this. my fucking brother is the luckiest fucker i have any met, i refuse to play any card game with him because any and every card/draw possible goes his way. it's complete bullshit.

OT: well skill is obvious..

however a bit of uncertainty is always nice.

Skill. You can rely on skill every time. If you rely on luck you are setting yourself up to be screwed.
What if a person has 0 skill?
You can always increase your skill. Luck isn't something you can realistically increase.

Skill. If you rely on luck to win, you're going to end up losing a lot.

Personally I think luck but a mixture of both is the best you can hope for. Skill is great and all but I think that luck helps more with a wider diversity of fields. If we put it in a RPG sense, more luck means generally good things happen to you, rather than being able to deal with it when bad things happen. but there is a ton to think of when discussing luck and skill

Lucky to be skilled?
Make you own luck?
I've found I generally have better luck when I concentrate REALLY hard on being luck. I don't know why
