I find the XBox360 controller to be the most comfortable "current gen" controller for general purposes (I have one hooked up to my PC for non-first person games), and the Wii-mote is actually pretty good for the games it's design complements (Ex: Skyward Sword and Goldeneye).

But the Gamecube controller is the best one of all time.

It has to be the Playstation one. The layout just happens to be same between consoles with several features added into the mix.

I've got to cast my vote for the Gamecube controller. One of the most functional and durable controllers I've ever used.

I prefer keyboard/mouse, but when it comes to console controllers, I like the X-Box 360 controller best.

Though I've always liked the Playstation consoles, the controllers have always been ridiculously uncomfortable to me, to the point where it's the biggest thing holding me back from buying a PS3.

Gamecube is my all time favourite.

I think aesthetically, the 360 controller is the prettiest of the current gen, but I've been a PS1-PS2-PS3 gamer so naturally the PS3 fits nicely into my hand and feels the most natural.

GameCube had the best controller, hands down. It just felt.. so good to hold compared to anything else, and that's even disregarding the not-too-comfortable shoulder buttons. Honorable mention goes to Xbox 360.

Also, anyone who claims that "mouse and keyboard are always superior hurp durp console peasants": I challenge you to get an emulated version of Super Mario 64 and try to play it with mouse and keyboard. =)
