Hmm I'd personally go with the "28" series, sure they aren't zombies per say but hell it's bloody awesome.

The best zombie film is any zombie film.
It's the one genre that you really can't go wrong with. I would have called Shaun of the Dead my favourite but since that's been crossed off the list, I suppose I will have to go with 28 Days Later. There's not much more terrifying than the concept of the "Rage" virus.
