Poll: which is the better buy right now, PS2, or PS3?(here me out on this one)

I say PS3 but hold on it a bit like some have said "there might" be a price drop on it or not but look at it this way you only have to pay for it once.

Also if your interested in the PS2 series of games the original 20/60 GB systems are compatable with all 3 generations of Playstation. Plus like you stated your friends own a few PS3 games maybe you could borrow a few single player ones they have or get your own copy(or rent)and play with/against them online.

Seriously if you are willing to look long enough you can get a cheap PS3 on ebay. Obviously not as cheap as ps2, but still totally worth it. I just got mine for $200 plus shipping. It's used, but works really well and came with everything you need to run it. I just looked and bid a ton until I got one cheap enough. Also a hint check ones that acutally charge for shipping, a lot of people ignore those in favor of the free shipping. However I paid for shipping and still got a better deal than people getting free shipping for the same system. I think it's worth the money to get the next gen games, just my opinion.

Get a 360. I have both 360, PS3, and PS2 and my 360 gets played way more than either of the other two, even though I have way more games on PS2.

Xbox Live is good as well.

So, which would be a smarter buy?

I think if there were no external factors the PS2 is a best buy but the constant barrage of media and future releases will mean it will leave you wanting. Don't live in the past, live in the now and future with a PS3. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your purchase.

There are rumblings of an imminent price drop though so maybe wait until mid April.

That's all you need to know, it's also still being supported sony.

However, a backwards compatible Ps3 gives you the best of both worlds, so the question you should be asking yourself is "do you have a spare $200 to spend on something you'll still be using in 8 years?".

Buy as PS2, Buy a PS1 if you want, anything is better than the PS3. I havnt bought a PS3 as of yet due to its price, lack of games and the fact its a rip off. PS2 is an amazing console. Its one of those consoles i dont think you could ever get bored of.

Great game selection, good price and one of those consoles that is just awesome. PS3 is a waste of time.

If you want a next gen console go buy a 360. If you dont have much money go buy a wii. Both great consoles. Dont waste your time on the PS3 you wont get your moneys worth from it.

PS2. from what my freind told me about his PS3 that most times he has to set the screen settings so yea go for the PS2 or 360 i have both =D. but i havent played my PS2 for a long time it does have some great games on it, but i mostly play my 360
