Poll: Which is the better Marvel Movie

Another vote or Cap 2 for me. I watched it with the kickboxers and we were all blown away by the combat scenes. Did cap just pull off a fucking double superman punch? Holy shit!

I think Gotg is my no.3 after the Avengers. I loved it, but it felt kinda like some parts were a bit rushed. They all went from fighting constantly in the bar scene, to 'I just couldn't let you die Gamora bla bla bla' in the space of about 10 minutes. Also the whole err... cancer bit... hit a bit close to home and consequently felt like a cheap shot right in the feels. It was quite off-putting.

That said, I definitely enjoyed it. There hasn't really been a marvel 'MCU' movie that I haven't enjoyed, although I was annoyed that they completely wasted Christopher Ecclestone (or however it's spelled) in Thor 2.

I'm not sure which one is objectively better, but I went to see Avengers I think twice in theaters. I've done Guardians five now, so I think that settles my vote. Of course, I also pay three bucks for a ticket, so that's probably a factor as well.

I'd say 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' While I did find the action and character banter good in 'The Avengers,' it's not really all that accessible without seeing previous films (inparticular, 'Iron Man,' 'Thor' and 'Captain America: The First Avenger'). Guardians is much more accessible, plus I do find the characters more interesting. Also, while it is still a Marvel film at the end of the day, I did like that Guardians had a feel similar to something like 'The Fifth Element' or the original 'Star Wars' films.

I'll admit, Ronan and the villains were a pretty low point of Guardians and aren't nearly as fun as Loki (Ronan, like most Marvel villians, seems more like something that moves the plot forward than a character). But I do feel the world building and bring the band of misfits together was much more fun.

I liked Raimi's first Spider-Man movie, however. Then again, that one -had- an actual plot, albeit simple. Also, Willem DaFoe.

That's probably the purest superhero movie we have from this generation. It wasn't remaking or following any other movie, just a full straight up story with no with no padding or trite fanservice and with no particular rush to spin more movies out of it.

It was my kind of thing.

Ironically enough, I've got quite a culture on superheroes so I should be glad to see all of these movies intertwined with each other like one single big (confused) story. But it just isn't my thing. Spider-Man had a characteristic in common with Burton's Batman movies (the other two superhero flicks I like): it was a superhero movie you could enjoy even if you don't like superheroes.

I liked Iron Man for similar reasons. It felt like the genuine article.

The world needs another comic book movie like it needs another Bush administration, but if we must have one more (and the Evil Marketing Geniuses at Marvel MegaIndustries will do their utmost to ensure that we always will), "Iron Man" is a swell one to have. Not only is it a good comic book movie (smart and stupid, stirring and silly, intimate and spectacular), it's winning enough to engage even those who've never cared much for comic books or the movies they spawn. Like me.

 

[Tuesday Night Fever]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is probably my favorite released to date, after that it's a toss-up between Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. That said, I've enjoyed most of them. The only ones I haven't much cared for are the Thor movies.

Between The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy though... yeah, I'm gonna have to go with Guardians of the Galaxy. Both good movies, but I had a hell of a lot more fun and genuine laughter with GotG.

Iron Man 3 is actually my favorite out of all of them so far, but Guardians of the Galaxy gives all of the movies so far a run for their money.

Choosing between the Avengers and GotG is a bit of a challenge for me though. They're both good movies and a lot of it is for the same reasons. Maybe The Avengers as it was that much of a surprise for me, but maybe I can just leave it at a tie, or something.

You REALLY skipped out on him if you think there's anything patriotic about him. He's just a really nice guy who happens to wear a suit that's red, white and blue.

Hell, I'm not even American and he's my favourite character Marvel has.

I didn't saw the Guardians, but if I have to choose I will say Ironman 3.
Yes, yes, I can hear the screams of the hate about this movie, but I LOVE the plot twist.

I loved it too. And I've been a comic book fan since before the cold war ended.

Sometimes it's just great to actually be surprised. And if ever a movie took me by surprise, it was the Iron Man 3 twist. And honestly, that is a page from the silver age playbook like no movie has used before. Showing you one thing on the cover (ads), then pulling the rug out from under your feet when you read the book (watch the movie). I felt like IM3 was a great movie that took a lot of inspiration from the history of comics. At least in spirit. It got the tone of silver age comics even if it rewrote some of the details.

Plus RDJ still managed to be as charming as ever in the role of Tony Stark. What's not to like about it? Mandarin as a character is an anachronism anyway. In our modern enlightened world, it would be all but impossible to create a true ripped-from-the-pages adaptation of the original Mandarin without a huge backlash in the global market movies have to compete in today.

So yeah, I loved Iron Man 3 too.

Loved Guardians of the Galaxy. Certainly feels like my favorite right now but it is all shiney and new. Still it's the first of the MCU films that has made me want to drop a grand on action figures (don't think of the combined price, don't think of the combined price) and I mean want in I'm actually going to do it not in the I just want to but I'm not that crazy (which is how I feel about a ton of figures).

I'm still in the afterglow of guardians, and even though I really liked it I have 2 problems with it that are minor but will probably solidify avengers as the better movie once it settles into my head. (no spoilers within reason)

1: Starlord's pop culture references. The casette tapes thing, perfectly fine. That was cool and interesting. But there's things like at one point he calls an alien "Ninja turtle" and one egregious one that actually makes it into the climax of the movie which put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth
2: The villains. They're not nearly as interesting as Loki and they're those kinds of villains where you don't know what the hell they'd do during the day. Like when they aren't actually fucking things up they always begin scenes sitting or standing in some kind of large room doing literally nothing.

Both are very good movies, but I'd have to give it to The Avengers. It's better written and the villain was infinitely better and more memorable. GOG didn't let you get to know or give much a crap about the main villain.

GOG failed on back story and depth. great for long time marvel fans but to new comers it was just a collection of multi coloured aliens that can punch shit really hard.

don't see the appeal of the cap myself, the whole espionage thing plays out as james bond on steroids and even when the fate of the world is at stake he never seems needed in his own movie.
If i was nick fury and the cap died i'd probably just send 10 normal soldiers to replace him and go grab a cappuccino :/

Until GOG i would say avengers succeeded as the best marvel movie purely on scope but my favorite is gonna be iron man 1 until they start doing some of the really good X-men story lines.

Surprised at the Guardians taking a pretty sizable lead here.

It's a great movie, definitely one of my favourites from Marvel, but I think Avengers was the better movie.

The characters were established from previous movies, I felt the Avengers had a better flow to it than Guardians.

I wonder if the result has anything to do with it being fresher in everyone's mind.

(Avengers, Guardians, Ironman, Captain America 2 are all worthy contenders, I'd even argue Thor 2 is up there)

The Winter Solider is easily the best Marvel movie since it features the beefiest plot and actual hard hitting action. I would however pick GotG over The Avengers, which has pretty much nothing going for it.

Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite marvel movie. Everything just worked, I loved the characters!
