They will have differing degrees of severity depending on context and perception by the audience.

in my part of the world (yorkshire) our accent often makes us prounce "cant" as "****"

as for the N word/nigga/****** never been in a situation where Ive said it or even heard it outside of tv and games so neither really means much to me.

Really? The 'C-word'? I honestly didn't even know what you were talking about until I scrolled down to find out. **** is such an unoffensive word. The only reason it carries any weight is because women see it as a slate against them, much like ****** is only offensive (when whitey says it) because black people see it as a horrible racial epithet (despite using the word constantly).

Language is balls. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is inherently offensive. Words are given power by the way people interpret them, and instead of letting a four letter word that in general context means "a stupid or unpleasant person" just be a four letter word, idiots and slaves to political correctness have raised it up onto a terrible pedestal of misogyny and chauvinism.

People can say that I'm being racist or sexist when I say '******', or '****', but that's not necessarily true. If it offends you, and I have little or no regard for your incredible sensitivity and frail emotional center, but am not intending to be racially or sexually offensive, than that makes me an asshole, not a racist.

This post brought to you by an affluent middle-class white male with no derogatory names to call his own.

Am Allowed to say n*gger? or c*nt for that matter? Come on people we are all mature enough to be able to say the word. The word alone is nothing, it is the intent, if i call a girls lady parts a c*nt, thats fair enough, if i call her that because i don't like her, it's a different matter. same with N*gger. Anyway, what worries me is that none of us will post the full ord for fear of the BANHAMMER happy mods. If simply reading a word you have decided is offencive is enough to make me worth banning, you have to take a good long hard look at yourself my friend. also can someone tell me that i didn't * out those letters, am i actually a target for ban?

N-Word.

Theres no competition between the two.
Even a white man would be pissed getting called one.

I've been called the C-word if its the one I think and I just kinda looked like wtf? And laughed.
Um, exact reverse here. I've been called a n****r and I burst out laughing due to it being totally nonsensical. I'm white!

Being called a c**t is about six steps down from being called a dick. I'd be way more ticked off about that.

Also, I don't remember reading about incredible controversy caused by the language in the first four minutes of this music video (or the rest of it, for that matter).

I don't believe in swear words as i don't believe any word is inherently offensive its the context & tone of the message that dictates whether it's offensive or not.
Honestly i think the stigma build up around some words is retarded.

Just say ****! Jeeze, no one cares about this word anyway.

You mean ******?

Man, why are people so scared of typing the words out fully? Is it grounds for moderation or something?
Nope, not if used in a meta discussion. At least, not previously. They're grounds for moderation is you attack someone with them only.

I censor them because I dislike typing them.

Exactly, if black people say ******, it shouldn't be an offensive word.

**** is just as offensive as dick... not offensive at all.

****** is far worse than ****. **** is a slang word for vagina that has become akin to gay and dick; now being an insult. I use **** on regular, daily basis - it isn't that bad, however some people may not like it. ******, on the other hand, is a racial derogatory slur that shouldn't be used by anyone. It's offensive to everyone and, while it's just a word, it's disrespectful when used in the right context.

You are demonising both the words by referring to them as the 'N-word' and the 'C-word'. You shouldn't be afraid to use the actual word when it's appropriate, it helps no one. If you're having a discussion like this one then no one will be offended if you use ****** and **** in a non-derogatory objective sense.

Fuck Rick Perry. Seriously, fuck that asshole. It's not enough to drag my state down the shitter, now he wants to finish flushing the whole damn country.

OT: Since neither of those words apply to me, I really can't say. I'd think the N-word is though.

Oh, and the C-word is ****. Cracker is racist too, but it's just not as loaded as the N-word.

Just to clear things up, we're talking about **** and ******, yes?

Well, the latter is a racial slur as opposed to the former which is just slang for a woman's genitalia.

Racial slurs tend to rank higher than female sex organs on my insult list.

Context is everything however [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3PJF0YE-x4]
Thank you for clearing what the c word is and I agree with you.

Words aren't offensive if you don't direct them at anyone so feel free to write ****** and **** for debate porpouses, i don't think you'll be reprehended. (I don't mean you Daystar Clarion)

I also agree that ****** is more ofensive than **** but english not being first language I might not understand the word "****" weight.

What's the word people use as a racial slur for latinos? Spic? Is that (as) offensive too? Maybe that's the word you want to be comparing ****** with.

What about the F word?? why isn't that brought up?

frankly i think the word '******' is just about as offensive as the word '******', mainly because of its origin. The word '******' technically means a bundle of sticks. So why would it be used to refer to homosexuals? Because back in the day they used to take homosexuals, and burn them alive. They would jokingly refer to their burning carcass as being like a bundle of faggots(sticks) on the fire.

and by C word, do you mean '****' or 'cracker'? frankly, (being a white guy) i have never found the word cracker to be offensive, because about the only time i've ever heard it used is ironically, the same way you often hear some people jokingly use the word nigga.

If you mean '****', i think it can be one of the more offensive words in the english language, but it doesn't really compare to the f word or the n word.

I gathered the N-word is ******, but what an earth is the C-word meant to be? That could be loads of different things.
I'm gonna hazard a guess that ****** is more offensive considering its a racial slur, although I'm not 100% of what I am comparing it to.
