Depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
Well, you've just done that /thread thing. Generally speaking, it's better to try. Helps build up an immunity to failure, plus practice makes perfect.

Never trying is failing by default
Unless trying alters the variables so that the subsequent failure is worse than the 'never try' kind of failure.

OT: I'd go with a risk vs reward. Is the reward for succeeding proportional to the risks and probabilities? I mean, risking shoplifitng a T.V has a next to no success rate, relatively mild rewards and a great deal of risk, so I'd say 'not trying' is a good idea there. But let's say you want to ask out someone you are good friends with so the chances are at least decent, if you fail you can fall back on your friendship, so the risks are low, and if you succeed you get to have a deeper relationship with someone you care about.

"Could I jump from this building to that one?"
"Better to try and fail than never knowing."
*Heroic leap!*
*Dramatic will he make it slow motion part...*
*Splat*
I'm still going to say never trying is worse, just if it could kill you do preperation first.

Utlizing common sense regarding the situation, its always better to try and fail then never try in the 1st place.

That old joke about procrastination being like masturbation rings true- it may feel good in the short term but ultimately your just fucking yourself.

Success and Failure are not written in stone.
If you never tried. Then you have 0% chance of success.
If you tried, you have at least 50% chance of success, maybe more, maybe less.

Most of the time it's better to try and fail than not try. At least you gave it a shot and won't be left wondering 'what if?'
Exactly, 'I never feared consequences, I hate regrets more than apologies..'

Yay NoFX :)

Completely depends on the situation.

In the case that you consider making a really advanced dinner, failing will ruin lots of food, and could potentially burn your house down if you roll natural 1s.

In the case of a war on the other hand, dying heroically while fighting against all odds is a hell of a lot better than sitting on your ass, watching your side lose.

I'm going to assume that the potential trying in question is toward a worthwhile goal, in which case not trying is the worst thing you can do, "better to ask forgiveness than permission"....I forget what that's from

It depends on what you mean by it for example;

If your playing a game for instance brink and a you've been revived you could stay and fight or run away if you run away you may consider the amount of XP you may of lost (Never tried).
If you stayed to fight and got killed again (Failed) you wondered what would of happend if you ran.

But overall its simple and either way it wouldn't affect to alot if you did die ect.

Or a Bigger example;

Say for instance Russia wants to invade America.

If they failed it wouldn't go to well and America would probaly fight back or try invade Russia in a counter attack or even nuclear warfare. (Or Even worse causing a new Call of duty game)If they never try then America would be freinds with Russia and people wouldn't die.

But if anything it would depend really so i vote both. (if even possible!)

Never trying means you are certain to fail. Trying and failing means you at least did something. I would much prefer to try and fail than give up. Thats just the way I see things.

Depends on the situation.

For instance, you might not try to later find out that if you had tried it would certaintly have ended badly. It's all about judgement.

Depends on the situation. But in general, I go by never trying as better, despite logic telling me that failing is better.

There was that one part in Empire Strikes Back where Yoda says: "Do or do not... there is no try."

Not gonna lie; I wanted to punch that adorable, ancient little monster SQUARE in the face when he said that. Take from that what you will....

That's... damn... that's deep o_O

But, sometimes trying can end up worse.
