Murder. Unless you're the sort of person who believes that they'll turn into a magical unicorn and trot off into a land of marshmallows when you die (okay, my theology isn't top-notch) then you accept that the reality of the matter is that when you die you're gone for good.

Nothing is worse than eternal nothingness. Nothingness can't even be comprehended. Rape is essentially a deprivation of one right: a right to decide your sexual partner. Murder is a deprivation of all of your rights.

Rape. If you're still alive you have to live with the torment of what happened. With murder, it's still bad, but you're at peace.

Just my two cents.

I think Murder.

Murder typically has a greater impact than rape does. Its not just the person being murdered who is effected, Its the victim, the murderer (after they are caught). The murderers family, the victims family.

Perhaps my perspective is skewn thanks to almost being murdered, but I know after looking at the situation, that had the attempt been sucessful, I would be effected, My biological family would have been effected, my family from romance would be effected would have basically been destroyed, The shooters family would be effected by watching him waste away in jail/mental hospital for years. So an issue between 2 people disrupts the lives of many.

I know rape is a damaging thing, but I seriously dont see its impact going quite that deep or effecting that many lives.

I'm glad I could bring a little levity into a thread about rape and murder.

Stay classy, BGH122.

Murder. There is always a way back up after you get knocked down. However, someone who murders you keeps you down permanently.

Shit man,

I was watching TV one day, the show was about life in prison,
and this inmate being interviewed pretty much said that he was in a gang that hunts and kills rapists and molesters,

this man was a fucking bad person, he has probably robbed stores and killed people, but he could not condone rape,

well damn,

though I would like to spend some more time thinking about this subject before giving my own answer,

Murder. Cause you can always recover from rape, long as you survive.
Not saying its easy or anything, but you just plain cant recover from being dead in the non DnD world.

Edit: Thats not to say EVERY murder is worse than EVERY rape, but if we talk worse case scenario...
yeah, i would say this. not to mention worst case scenario rape probably ends in death, so technically murder

With society as the meter by which I judge, I say rape is worse. Rapists are widely regarded as the scum of the earth, while murder seems to be just another crime and people have very little problem justifying murder.

Who gives a shit if its justified? I'd rather still have my life than avoid rape. If you really can't get over being raped and life after it isn't worth living, you can always kill yourself. Personally I'd rather have the option left up to myself and do what I want with the rest of my life.

I don't think of being dead as being at peace. Sure any pain or suffering is gone but you've lost out on all other potential things your life could have brought. Robbing someone of years of life is much worse than any form of torture unless it is extended for a fairly long time.

Murder has no justification, there is not good reason to take justice into your own hands unless you have to save your self, then it's self defense not murder.

There is no help for murder and there is no therapy for it ether, you're dead. With rape you still are alive and have a chance to heal some from it but murder there's now way back.

RAAAPE! MUUURDER! IT'S JUST A SHOUT AWAY! IT'S JUST A SHOUT AWAY!
In all honesty probably rape because you can't really say anyone deserves that, however murder can be justified as in self defence or protection of another.

Um, I don't want to be "that guy", but....Is there a reason we can't just say "they're both bad, don't do either one" and leave it at that?

so before looking at the results of the poll i am guessing most people will say murder because i think that the majority of people here are male and men tend to underestimate the effects rape has on a person.

murder can (but rarely is) justified and there are millions of people trained to be murderers.

You can't compare murder and rape on the same level. Thats like comparing apples and oranges (yay for overused..uhm things...my minds blank). Anyways, you really can't.

.. You attack me with a knife in my home, I am justified in putting two shotgun shells in your brain. But if I decide to kill you in any other circumstnace, it is not justified.
In Germany you go to jail if you do that.

I choose both are equally bad, but hard to compare because you have to look from two different angles.

Viewpoint of the Law: Murder is worse. Victim can not recover and there no way you can undo the crime.

Viewpoint of the victim: Rape is worse. For a murder victim the hard part of the crime is over. For a rape victim the hard part has just started. Picking up your life after such a crime is a very hard thing to do. The human brain just loves torturing oneself with questions like "Why me? What could I have done to prevent it? Is it partially my fault? Should I have fought harder?" and so on.
