Tali, mostly because it was hinted at in ME2 that the Migrant Fleet was going to do something big in ME3. Tali would no doubt be somewhat attached to that, and Shepard would be dragged into that. Which would be awesome.

Second place goes to Garrus, he's easily one of the most likable team mates. But Bioware, I think he's spent enough time calibrating, can he do something else now?

Thane is cool too, but I don't think he's going to make it to ME3, he is dying after all.

I'd be very interested in seeing how the continued presence of the "heretic" Geth and their quarrel with sentient life would play out with Legion in the party. Plus, all the possible interesting dialogue options when taking legion along with you into Alliance space. It'd be pretty fun.

I would love to see Mordin or Garrus there. Garrus is a good bro, and I love the dialogue options with him. He's fucking awesome. Mordin because he is my favorite ME2 character, what with his Salarian Scientist song, and his brilliant morals. He may have helped with the genophage, but he feels bad over the useless waste of life. He's probably the best written character in that game.

I would vote Tali but as she's obviously obviously in ME3 because BioWare don't want to see their offices razed to the ground by the Talimancers, I vote Legion because he is just awesome.

"Tali, remember that time in the elevator?"

"Garrus, remember a moment ago, when I had a plasma weapon? Still do."

"Legion, care to infiltrate the bar?"

"Geth do not infiltrate."

Tali'Zora vas Normandy. We're gonna do things crazy-style now that her immune system is familiar with everything I could possibly give her.

I chose Garrus, 'cause he's totally badass but also the kind of guy you could kick back with after the whole hellish galactic apocalypse threat was over. Honorable mention goes to Thane and Legion for badassery, followed by Mordin and Tali. I'm just hoping for a massive showdown at the end of it all with every one of your squadmates plus all of the alliances you've forged over the course of the series.

Either Legion or Mordin.

Mordin was one of my favorites, with Legion as a close second.

technically, I don't think they could return any of the characters as playable characters, because they pride themselves on continuity, they need to write each character's death or survival into ME3. Shepard doesn't have that problem as dead shepards can't be transfered, but everyone else can be left dead at the end of ME3.. you're only guaranteed to have 2 team mates alive (any less then that and shepard dies).. and who they are is based on your actions, so yeah, everyone could be dead at the end of ME2.

And they'll write "alive/dead" into the system for all of them.

The only "returning characters" that can still return is Liara or Ashley/Kaiden. It would be possible for them to have Ashley or Kaiden join your group depending on which one survived, and Liara still hasn't had a chance to die, so she's a possible recruit for ME3. Everyone else could be canonically dead in ME3, so I don't see how any of them could be written into the game. Although having Ashley/Kaiden in your party depending on which of them survived in ME1 would actually be pretty nifty.

I want Garrus, Thane, Legion, and Mordin back the most. If I had to pick just one, probably Legion.

The way the poll is turning out is pretty much how I feel as well, the characters in the top half are definitely more interesting and important than those in the bottom half.

That said, I genuinely enjoyed all of the characters (except for Jacob, being the boring human male that he is), and I'd be shocked if Miranda was simply tossed aside, considering her involvement with the story (being close to TIM) and high profile character model. ;)

Split between Tali, Jack and Legion.

Oh, and Wrex of course.

Garrus: If you are a male Shepard, then he is basically your partner in crime and do-goodery. A sidekick, only with more of a presence and a higher kill count than most. He is a necessity, an integral part of the story almost as much as Shepard is.

Legion: Because of the story of the first game, and how the Reavers choose the Geth as their minions, having Legion return is almost a necessity as well. He is an in to connecting to the Reavers, and I imagine that there would be a very emotional encounter with Legion when they confront the Reavers.

Tali: The female sidekick and the only Quarian to be included as a playable character. Thus far, at least. Both of those lead to an almost sure thing of her returning. Especially because we have yet to see what a Quarian actually looks like without their masks. If the first one we see isn't Tali, I'll be very surprised.

Mordin: The fan-favorite, and for good reason. He is an incredible character, one that never ceases to amaze and amuse. The perfect mad scientist character for the science fiction era, and one that has become very integral to the plot. He helped perfect the genophage. To defeat the Reavers, the Krogan will probably have to be brought back. Thus, Mordin will probably be around to reverse the effects. I'd be very surprised if he didn't show up again.

The Rachni Queen: I know she wasn't one of the choices, but you know that she will turn up again. Permitting, of course, you let her live in your original Mass Effect character save file. Yes, I believe that shit will carry over. Imagine that, huh? Honestly, you'll probably have some sort of choice between bringing back the Rachni or the Krogans. That's how I see it playing out, anyway.

And, my guilty pleasure, Thane: Thane was an incredible character. He had the most emotional depth, I felt, and he never ceased to impress. You really cared about him, and he was always useful in combat situations. Sadly, due to the fact that he was already dying in Mass Effect 2, it's unlikely that he will return. But I'll be very sad if he doesn't.

The rest are not very important to the plot at all. Miranda may return as some sort of reminder of the days with Cerberus, but I can't really picture any other characters making a return without some big plot twists. Of course, knowing BioWare, they'll probably manage to squeeze every character from both games in there somehow. And, honestly, I wouldn't be adverse to that.
