Tali'Zorah and Garrus.
Can't decide between them. And I want to keep testing Garrus' reach and Shepard's flexibility.
Tali was my favorite in the first game but Garrus really grown on me.

No pun intended.

Legion. I'm surprised he isn't more popular. As well as offering a whole new perspective on the synthetic/organic issue, he's also a funny character. Touching, in ways. 'There was a hole' still ranks as one of my favourite moments from that game. As does his [its?] impromptu christening. I really like the idea of the Geth overall.

Garrus, obviously, he's a fan favourite that've become more and more badass. I know that BioWare will bring him back. They have to, my love for Garrus is only very manly and not at all awkward and strange.

Legion, because he's, you know, a GETH! He might be the key to finding a way for the quarians to get their old lives back, and for the galaxy to be able to co-exist with the geth. And he might be the key to beat the reapers, since the geth posses more information than the rest of the known species together (at least it's most likely they do) and have the possibilities to near endless numbers in a war.

Tali and Legion will be pivotal to the story, as they will influence whether or not the Quarians (along with everyone else) and the Geth can kiss and make up for the greater good.

Tali because we are lovers.
Grunt because he's cool... but...

If Wrex isn't gonna have at least a side role in ME3, I'll be SO pissed off!

If my theory of getting all the races to join together to fight the Reapers is correct, then I think Tali, Legion, Garrus, Miranda and Grunt will come back... if not then Garrus and Tali :D

This ones a toughy...lemme think here.

Garrus: Well, I never really used you in ME 1, but you grew a whole new level of awesome-sauce in ME2. Will that awesome sauce continue in ME3? will see.
Jacob: your the stereotypical black dude. the fact that you didn't die in the collector base is astounding.
Thane: I generally enjoyed Thane, he's a good guy. But the man is dying, I doubt he'll live to see ME3.
Jack: fuck you, you psychotic *****.
Legion: I like having you around Legion, I do, but your honestly more trouble than your worth. you nearly got me killed on the migrant fleet.
Mordin: I love musicals, but I honestly never took you out of the lab. you did escort the crew out of the Collector base though.
Miranda: Must...resist...the power...of the ass!
Tali: uhh.......Kay? I honestly never understood all the love that Tali get's as a character. she really didn't interest me. at all.
Samara: Begone, Liara clone! you shall not tempt me with thy blue juggs! my soul is pure, and my heart her's! (not that you want it anyway)
Grunt: Your like a miniature Wrex...I think I love you.

Its official. Bioware loves the Krogan. why else would they make all other characters completely unlikeable? ;)

If I can only choose one, I want Mordin. Dude was the best part of ME2.
Second place though goes to Garrus, I feel like hes the most stable part of my team.
3rd place to Miranda just because of that ass...
The rest can die in a fire. Especially Jack... oh how I want to shoot Jack.
i support (most of) this post.

i don't want all of them to DIAF. But Jack, oh yeah, let me space her.

technically, I don't think they could return any of the characters as playable characters, because they pride themselves on continuity, they need to write each character's death or survival into ME3. Shepard doesn't have that problem as dead shepards can't be transfered, but everyone else can be left dead at the end of ME3.. you're only guaranteed to have 2 team mates alive (any less then that and shepard dies).. and who they are is based on your actions, so yeah, everyone could be dead at the end of ME2.

And they'll write "alive/dead" into the system for all of them.

The only "returning characters" that can still return is Liara or Ashley/Kaiden. It would be possible for them to have Ashley or Kaiden join your group depending on which one survived, and Liara still hasn't had a chance to die, so she's a possible recruit for ME3. Everyone else could be canonically dead in ME3, so I don't see how any of them could be written into the game. Although having Ashley/Kaiden in your party depending on which of them survived in ME1 would actually be pretty nifty.
That would mean ME3 would be yet another game where you have to recruit a team and then complete your mission. Its been done in the first two and despite my love for the first two I dont know if I could handle another set of all new characters.
I'm saying that that's exactly how it's going to be.

The characters from ME2, and any surviving ME1 characters that aren't Liara/Ashley/Kaiden (I actually hope they do bring Ashley/Kaiden back, if only because that would be a serious instance of "The choice you make in ME1 follows you all the way to ME3", and it could be technically feasible.. One of them has survived.. not always the same one, but one of them is still alive by default)... The characters from ME2 and ME1 that aren't those 3 basically CANNOT be in the third game as important playable characters, because Bioware is priding themselves on Continuity in this one.. It's possible to do 2 alternating characters that are either flagged "alive/dead" in your save, and if they want to go that route, it will be with Ashley/Kaiden.. but completely infeasible to build a game where any number of your starting force (or even potential starting force) could be dead at the beginning of it. Ashley/Kaiden are a known element, they basically just need to expand on what they did in ME2, make their contribution to the party almost identical (except interestingly their abilities), and you can just swap them depending on the continuity without a problem.

Everyone else will just be an ally of Shepards, and may certainly come into play in the final encounter of the trilogy.. They may introduce new characters that are recruitable, or give access to different equipment/etc when they're alive.. I think it would be really cool if each of the people who survived the whole series made it into the final climactic battle.. Sort of maybe like the hold the line, but all in charge of their own ships, fighting reapers.. and the more people you've managed to keep alive (Wrex, ME2's crew, anyone who has survived so far in ME3, perhaps other NPCs which weren't party members but whos fate you had control over throughout the series..) and all of them contribute in the end.. if NONE of them are alive, then you'll have a tougher time surviving in the end.. If Shepard has managed to kill off all of his allies in his travels, he dies at the end for sure.. Interestingly, you could start ME3 and have NO chance of surviving in the ending, if you killed wrex, all of the killable npcs, all but 2 of your crew in ME2).

How about Mass Effect 1 characters? I want Wrex back on my team! But as for Mass Effect 2, Samara and Tali can die. Jack needs to die. Other than that, they should all stay, I love 'em to death. But there's no way they can play a significant role,
considering they can die at the end of the game (but I kept them alive :D) they wouldn't appear in a lot of peoples games.
But yeah, it wouldn't make sense for Bioware to hire voice actors that a lot of players won't even here.

If I had to pick 1.... Grunt all god DAMN day. He doesn't take shit from nobody(aware of the double negative). For character development.... shit I'd have to say it's a draw between Garrus and Mordin.

Just because they're hiring the Voice Actors doesn't mean those characters are coming back as playable characters.. Just because characters are returning in the game doesn't mean those characters are coming back as playable characters.. In ME1, only 2 of your crew could be dead/not in the party (Ashley/Kaiden, and Wrex/Garrus (you can actually play the whole game without recruiting Garrus iirc.. how that effects ME2 if it is possible would be interesting to know).. ME2 sort of assumed that you got Garrus (probably even if you didn't), and so Garrus, Tali and Liara were possible recruits for ME2.. They chose to just go with Garrus and Tali.

People think that because Garrus and Tali returned from ME1 to ME2 as playable characters that ME3 will follow suit, but the "who-dies-o-meter" plays a lot differently in ME2. EVERYONE has a chance to die in ME2.. At the end of the game, any of the characters could be dead.. at least 2 and shepard survived (any less then 2 survivors and shepard dies and is unloadable in ME3), but who those 2 are, is entirely dictated by player actions. I can't see how, if they want to maintain the continuity they've been touting since day 1, that they could keep any of the playable characters from ME2.. Regardless of the Employment of Voice Actors.. They brought Wrex back as an NPC, and I'm imagining all of the PCs from ME2 will be similar to that.. NPCs.. It's easy to flag an NPC as dead, and either remove their section from the game, or change it by adding a different NPC.. It's pretty impossible to flag a PC as dead before the game start and have it come out as anything but garbage. Except in the Binary case of Ashley/Kaiden, which I really think would add a really intriguing element to the continuity.. Give Ashley and Kaiden the exact same story elements, sort of like how you did in ME2.. and make them playable characters... people who unlike me can't see the line will never see it coming.. I think it would be awesome, and simple if they made sure that Kaiden and Ashley were story-wise basically the same character.. any important discovery they make that's crucial to the plot is discovered by whichever one is alive.. easy peasy japaneesy.

If I had to choose one, absolutely Garrus Vakarian. He was my favourite character in both the original and ME2, and always the dependable badass number two to my Paragon Shepard.

Honourable mentions to both Tali and Mordin, though.

I predict Tali to win this tread, with Garrus shortly behind her.

They are the greatest Mass Effect Characters ever. If they don't come back I will be sorely disappointed
