Before you select a poll option, disregard any of their combat impracticalities (i.e. Elcor being too slow to keep up with Shepard or Hanar not being able to properly handle weapons). Choose based on which race would be cool to interact with during and between missions and/or the benefits they would bring to combat.

Personally, I would have to go with the Yahg. It would have been pretty cool to see one charging through enemy ranks, maybe taking a Brute head on in ME3.

The only other races I could see on top of the poll options would be Keepers and Varren. The former would be interesting as we have virtually no information on them. The latter could be the same principle as the Mabari from the DA series.

EDIT: This thread is referring solely to those races which provided no previous squad mates in any of the games.

Batarian

I'd love to see how one of them would get on Shepard's squad, given the Batarian/Human conflicts throughout the series.

Volus.

Everyone should have a tiny companion that talks like it's coming down with nasal swamp flu.

My case, I rest it.

I think a Batarian would have been interesting.

Would have been cool to get their view on everything, rather than being the Redshirts of the Mass Effect universe.

It would be nice to have a Geth back on board. I liked talking to Legion and they where one of my favourite races.

I was actually really hoping - ever since I saved the queen back on Noveria in ME 1 - that you'd get a Rachni squadmate. I was always thinking something like the dog from Dragon Age: Origins, only instead of a big rottweiler it's a giant space scorpion thing.

Elcor! I'd love to see how they fight, plus that advertisement on the citadel for the buddy cop movie with the elcor in it made me wonder how 'badass' elcors really are. Plus you never need to guess how they're feeling since they usually tell you before saying anything else.

More Krogan.

Just saying.

Both Wrex and Grunt in ME2 would have been awesome.
ME3 didn't even have a Krogan squad mate.

This one believes the Hanar were underrepresented in the Mass Effect series. This one believes the Hanar deserve more time in the large directed beam of light.

Yahg.

A big, ass kickin' Krogan intimidating Yahg.

By all accounts despite the violence they can get pretty smart.

It would be interesting to see Liara have an argument with a Yahg for being the former Shadow Broker's relative or something.

Hanar, only because I'd imagine they'd make peoples heads explodes.

I prefer my Turians, Geth and Quarians anyway.

With enthusiasm: An elcor would make a great squad mate, and an even better romance option.

Yahg. The intelligence of a Salarian, with the brute force of two and a half Krogan. What's not to love (with a hint of fear).

Batarian would also have been good. Very symbolic of how the whole Galaxy needs to put aside their differences and work together, seem as Humans/Batarians probably have the biggest hatred for each-other in the Galaxy after the Krogan/Truians-Salarians and Quarians/Geth. It would also be interesting to see just how your average Batarian really thinks without the influence of the Heagemony hanging over their head constantly.

A Batarian. The dialogue with Shepard would have been amazing, given the history. The others.

Elcor: Funny in small doses. It would get annoying to talk to one for an extended period of time.

Volus: Same as above. Their speech patterns are kind of annoying to me.

Hanar: Same as above.

Vorcha: Same as above, multiplied by a thousand.

Rachni: Would be cool. Though who would it speak through? Actually, it's only the queen who speaks through others. Having the queen along for the ride would be cool. I guess we could keep a close watch on her. Make sure she doesn't get kidnapped and used. Again.

Yahg: Would also be great. A Yahg would be my second choice after a Batarian.
