Personally I am already playing World of Warcraft Cataclysm, and after the original thrill of new content, I am beginning to feel as though, despite all the fantastic new content Blizzard is trying to implement, what it really does is reveal WoW's flaws in more stunning detail. Now instead of just mindless quest after mindless quest, you can now have an epic story driven quest chain, broken up by mindless quests because they have to crowbar in experience somewhere and who cares about immersion as long as those numbers go up, eh?

I am immensely looking forward to Guild Wars 2 myself, though the first game is rather disappointing, not having a very flowing social aspect, I found myself only being able to drag myself back to it just to get a few pieces in the Hall of Monuments. Meanwhile the second game touts some impressive graphics and a dedication to run them on mid-range gaming computers so my computer won't chug and eventually die in a cloud of smoke when I try to boot up the game. Add on less math based combat, some movement with said combat, dynamic events and the beautiful absence of a monthly fee, and well... paint me green, stick a hook in my mouth and call me hooked.

Star Wars the Old Republic seems interesting, and I love BioWare to death, but it feels as though they are investing too deeply into their voice and gimmick budget(spaceships announced when they got the idea) and less in their combat, while Rift and Aion, from what I've seen, seem too similar to WoW for me to waste the keystrokes to find more information. Champions and DC I'm not even vaguely interested in, especially since I have heard from friends that DC is not quite exactly what it was promised to be.

So enough of my opinion, what do you all think?

Being a big BioWare fan and a big Star Wars fan, I'm extremely excited for SW:TOR. I've been following the game for quite awhile now, and I'm dying of anticipation for it to come out. I like what they're doing so far, and I'm giving BioWare the benefit-of-the-doubt in areas they haven't talked about. I'm hoping that in the worst case, some areas of the game fall back on mechanics ripped straight out of WoW. I enjoyed WoW when I played, and if those were the worst parts of the game, then they wouldn't bother me too much and I could still enjoy the game.

I've got an eye on Guild Wars 2 as well. Given that there's no monthly fee, if it delivers on its promise to break the MMO mold, then I'll probably give it a shot. I'm skeptical if it will really work out though. Only time will tell.

Guild Wars 2. Definitely. For many reasons, but most observably:

Reason #1 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/1906-The-Future-of-MMOs]

Reasons #2-40something [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.236131-All-yours-Guild-Wars-2-Information-Topic-New-Guardian-Class-Info-1-27-11-27-1-11#8408898]

@theComposer Hmm yeah I see what you mean, though one of the reasons I am not quite as interested is because I am afraid they will fall back on WoW elements. Though I have no doubts that the voice acting, choices and what not will be top-notch, it is BioWare after all, every fiber in body wants an MMO that shies away from WoW mechanics, as I am a 5 year veteran of said game. But I suppose it would be better than mediocre parts, but only time will tell.

How you feel about SW:TOR is about how I feel about Guild Wars 2, the parts that I am slightly skeptical about, I remain hopeful for, mostly because if they could pull it off without a subscription fee...I would be one happy camper. Though I have been known to hope and be quite let down before. Ala, Two Worlds. That game made me die a little inside.

Going to play WoW, Rift and Guild Wars 2 at the same time.
WoW I've known people on there who play for a long time so I can't easily drop it. Despite its flaws, I still find raiding enjoyable.

Rift is a very enjoyable but different flavour MMO to WoW. The emphasis to me, is on the huge spectrum of possibilities of class combinations. There will always be balance issues and cookie cutter builds, atleast the format gives the illusion of choice. Unlike WoW where you have to be a retard to specc wrong, and the points where you can "truely customise" aren't very exciting. The major Rift events are fun. It's been a long time since I last felt immersion in an MMO where I cared about the pixles I see before me. During the significant rift invasion I almost felt like I was taking part of something major.
Only downside is that some 'soul' combinations are completely moronic and conflict with each other. E.g. Stormcaller/Pyromancer would mean you either casted Water/Lightning spells or Fire spells. Sure you had the choice, but you were awful at both.

Guild Wars 2 has the benefit for no subscription fee. I also liked in the first game that there was room for customization for your character with regards to builds. You could be a combination of 2 classes and you picked 8 abilities carefully (for an instance for pvp fight). There were myriads of fun builds that had abilties that worked well with each other. Hopefully something like this will be in the sequal. The designers did say that the Mage/Healer/Warrior/Rogue concepts were dissolved and that each class had a abilties to manage encounters. Like CC, snares, damage reductions and stuffs (bit vauge). Hopefully it will turn out well. I also can play as a Charr which is one of the most bad-arse races to play as in any RPG. What is there to not like about being a Lion-Bear-thing?

@2xDouble Agreed.

@scw55 Won't that get a little expensive considering both WoW and Rift will have subscription fees?

GW 2. Played the first, albeit late but I like games that don't make me pay monthly. No reason to add reasons why, see above.

GW2. I'm expecting SW:TOR to flop from what I've been hearing about the game. Also considering on going back to WoW, but I heard the World PvP has been changed to the point where it isn't worth doing, which was one of favourite things about the game.

I've went on a F2P binge over the last few days, installing LOTRO, DDO and CO. When I'll find the time to actually play them is another question, given that I'm still drifting in and out of City of Heroes and Fallen Earth.

Of the other games in the poll, I've tried RIFT - it's not bad looking but it feels incredibly generic. I am interested in TOR, though more to see how/if they pull it off rather than out of any great eagerness to play the actual game. No real interest in any of the others, except for WoW which I'll no doubt return to one of these days, but I don't expect any time soon.

I want to at least try Star Wars, but I'm definitely not paying subscriptions. So I'm probably not going to go through the hassle to install it just for a free trial.

Champions Online is the only game on that list which allows me to make a Dr Killinger lookalike with magic powers granted after being hired as a consultant to Satan and improving efficiency by 70% or a communist gun wielding gorilla fighting the bourgeoisies in America. And it's free. Even if Cryptic is hostile towards silvers. And I can fly.
