I have started to play WoW aswell now though but sheerly for the fact that loads of my friends play it and it has voice chat. Also I like meeting random people in the middle of no-where and becoming friends with them.
The fact it has voice chat is a reason for you playing the game?

Buh?!

There are some decent free things nowadays, if you're gonna go all-out grind.
However, I'm more of a social creature, so I go for the games most accomidating to a dance party.

Edit: Drat... The Soulja Boy is going to be in my head for weeks now...

People get addicted to WoW because they want to level up so they can get the next big thing and be even more badass. People get addicted to EVE because the world is so realistic, the backstory is so fleshed out, the community is so great, and it's so immersive. There's nothing you can't do other than walking in stations, but in 4 months, you'll be able to do that too. CCP is even going to add (in 2010, but still)fully 3d gas giants and planets with simulated weather and rings, planetary conquest and control, managing planetary colonies and cities, even more graphics upgrades, better physics, dynamic lighting, ship customization , and of course, even more t1 and specialized t2 ships.
Are you on crack sir?

Also for the record: Station walking is end of 09, unless they changed the dates again, we have tech 3 ships first. The Planatery Management side isn't slated for a long time, not as early as 2010.

New ships come all the time, and graphics updates will be comming early enough (CCP Iris - the guy who did the FMV for the Empyrean Age trailer - is doing the graphics now. That FMV was done in a DX9 environment).

Either or, people don't get addicted because of immersion, realism, backstory OR the community. They get addicted mostly because unlike other MMO's what you do has consequences. Even though they only really effect yourself.

Sorry for hijaking the thread folks!

In answer to the OP, I would give Morrowind, Fallout (any of them from 1 to 3) and Guild Wars a shot at detox. You -could- try EVE, but if you do give me a yell as the infamous learning cliff applies even after they made the game easier for newbies =/
Tech three? Awww, I'm so going to have to reactivate my account for that.

you shouldn't play any mmo they are like crack, instead pick up a shooter that you will eventually get bored of and stop playin so that your life can continue as normal.

Personally I'd try CoH/V. Lot less thinking/grinding and a lot more fun. But with a group of mates and a pack of munchies, nothing beats a good old P&P Dungeon Bash.
The only problem I have with City of Heroes/Villains is that there is no auto-attack, so combat is kinda slow. Flying around is fun though I will admit.
I'm not sure what you mean here, as you can set virtually every power to autofire, simply buy ctrl-clicking. You'll still have to manually target (tab/mouse1 etc.), but most powers can be set to auto.

I'd say give EVE a try. I just started the free trial a couple days ago and I'm really liking it so far. It's got a pretty steep learning curve but the tutorial helps quite a bit.

As I say to everybody, if you give it a go, my in game name is the same as on here, and im willing to help people over the bump.

My name is the same everywhere.

Except on steam, where I am simply Jon.

I say wait for The Old Republic. If any MMORPG has a chance for greatness, it's one from BioWare.

Gladiatus and Combat Arms are great, although i don't know how well they fit into the MMOG category.

While EVE Online is really cool in how realistic it is with the economy and such, I really can't recommend it because it is extremely boring compared to your average MMO ( or any other game for that matter.)

EDIT: And yes, I did play the 2 week free trial.

Off line rpg if you like the average gameplay of mmos but without any form of reward. Guild Wars is ok but the combat becomes repetitive and after you've done the the story there's not mch else to do other than pvp. But other mmos like eve online do pvp better. Try eve, and I don't mean spend the trial mining on your own. Join a corporation of good, friendly players who will help you out and trust me you'll have a great time.
