my vote is for the mythical one that doesn't break after a year or set things on fire if left on too long.

You can use USB storage on the 360 now, so Memory Cards are basically pointless.

Why, exactly, do you need to take off the HDD? The ones on the Slim are actually still removable, you just have to take off part of the cassis to slip them out. They're still not hard-wired in or anything.

Personally I'm looking at a 250 Slim to replace my aging and temperamental old 20gb, which hasn't been 20gb since the HDD died but that's beside the point.
the reason to take them out is to keep save data if for some reason the console needs to be sent in for repairs

as for upgrading, do it only if you want, but from EVERYTHING I've gathered, the Slim is by FAR the greatest model yet

just don't pick up the console while the disk is in it or you'll lose that disk ;)
I would add that the losing the disk thing can happen with any 360. Two of my friends have had that happen to them. One them lost his Halo 3 multiplayer map disc that he got when he got ODST. Someone was over on game-night that normally wasn't, and accidentily kick my friend's 360 over. It is the soul reason I don't stand my 360 up height-wise, it is too easy for it to fall over.

I can see the problem and yes the Xbox should be cracked down on

BUT!

I probably won't have that problem due to it's placement (no I'm not being full of myself I really have everything super neat and tidy for gameing systems and out of "trip" reach)

the ONLY time I ever had something happen to a game was my Wii scratched a disk when it fell over upside down during a 6.5 earthquake on the epicenter
It won't even take a 6.5 to do your 360 S in, hell, even a B-train driving by could do it.

I won't stand it up for ventalation problems, and it'll be sitting on my desk above my TV and CPU so there's no way someone can trip over it OR the wires (being that they'll be behind the rack)

so instead of peeing itself and dieing, it goes into a 4 hour coma.
No, it still has the same design flaw, so a hot day still means you'll have it die. Maybe not every time, but people have already had it shut down to protect itself and never turn back on.

I know that was an extreme case, it was just showing how cautious/careful I am with games being that the 6.5 epicenter quake, is the only thing to harm a game of mine

oh and Sonic Unleashed (the Wii game I had in) still works fine, there's just a mark on it now

Hey, if you want to convince yourself you won't have problems, go for it. We're just trying to tell you. If you buy a 360 S now, you're not a smart buyer. If you really want a 360 you either get a Super Elite or a Jasper Arcade, or you wait for a year to make sure that the changes Microsoft made actually do make a difference.

weird... and a hot day here is still around 60f (so not very)
we live on the coast where it's always foggy and 60ish

The 360S doesn't just scratch, it gouges.

I'm not trying to convince myself I won't have problems, I'm just a much more careful gamer so I'm sure it'll be less extreme for me in some cases

and the RROD problem, well, you're the only person really persistent on it, I've found a lot of people saying it doesn't happen and you saying it does, I'm just going by numbers here

I'd say it out and out kills, not gouges, I saw the E3 video where I guy lifted it up and just plain totaled MF2

I'm not even waiting for my 60GB Xbox Suger-free* to die before I replace it with a 250GB Slim.

Why? Because I need the HDD space, and I need something that'll run cooler than my current one, my rooms only 8ft by 5ft... Just the temperature a single person creates is enough to turn my room into an oven, I don't want my gaming radiator adding to it...

(*because all those other pointless titles don't sound any less ridiculous)

It hasn't been out long enough for the numbers to accumulate, but I'm far from the only person talking about it, there have been other threads here and if you search around you'll find other sites and forums where people are talking about problems with the new model.

The Jasper models are known to be reliable if you take care of them (I've got one, horizontal on a metal tray with good air circulation in the part of the room that gets the least heat), the S models are unknown and there are several things that are concern worthy. One is that you'd think they'd improve everything, but they actually made the disc scratching issue worse, which brings up the question of what else did they make worse and did they put any serious effort into fixing anything? The CPU and GPU are now on a single die, but that's for reduced manufacturing costs, they haven't done any structural changes to prevent major hardware failure, and it's something that 3rd party repair centres can fix, so you'd expect them to redesign it properly when they're doing a full redesign. They didn't.

I'd get the PS3 one.

Or, alternatively, the new black slim one. Like the new slim black PS3, but shunted out of Bill Gates' electronic vagina.
giant price difference and less game choice

however I will admit I don't like Bill Gates... just more games I want are on 360 then PS3
Whoawhoawhoa have you checked the games for PS3? Fair enough if you have and don't like many of them, but I'm pretty sure it beats Xbox on the number of exclusives by far :p

If you're definitely going for an Xbox though I'd personally get a Slim with the biggest harddrive. I've heard about them being more reliable (as long as you don't move them while they're turned on), and they look shiny :D
Number of exclusives doesn't mean anything. I choose '360 over PS3 because of Halo, Gears, L4D and Dead Rising. I know there are good exclusives on both sides, but this takes the biscuit for me.
I could care less about Halo and Gears
but I think AvP is Computer and 360 only and my computer just BARELY doesn't have the processor for it (0.2 GHz too short)

I'm mainly getting it for it's connection to Windows Live, Castle Crashers, XBLA exclusives, MvC3 when it comes out (even though THAT I would prefer on the PS3), and a few other games
Well Castle Crashers is out on ps3.

I've explained this one but okay

everyone here has it on the 360, not the PS3, and I prefer to play multiplayer games with people I know
(plus, Castlevania HD isn't on ps3, and neither is AvP last I checked although I could be wrong)

EDIT: Plus in the 360 Castle Crashers I already have a high level fire-knight I'd like to keep
