I plan on doing a 2 into 1 pipe setup on my Harley, I can't wait to see how that sounds. You did really good work on it. How much did the restore set you back?Private Custard said:Yep, about a month away from its 17th birthday.......and still embarrasing newer machines regularly. And the noise, fuck it sounds good with that full Yoshi system!Horticulture said:Looks great. I won't even try to deny a bit of Harley bias...I was a bit limited on poll choices. I've never heard the term metric cruiser though. I tried to keep it simple and I realize some of the choices are like trying to put a circle into a square hole. I'll do better next time.Ossum said:Methinks there's a bit of a Harley bias here. The typical term for what is called "some other cruiser" is a "metric cruiser" or "metric bike" more generically. That, and your "oddity bikes" are usually called dual-purpose, often sport-touring, sport-dirt, etc depending on which types that bike blends.
I own a '96 Kawasaki Vulcan 800, with a scooterizing mod, Cobra Fatty Staggered pipes, debranding, EPA mod, paint, etc.
Here, this is easier:

Me too. I have after market pipes. My bike makes the same sound as yours.Destal said:We'll have to politely disagree on that last part. My favorite thing about my bike is the sound it makes everytime I start it up and give it a good rev.kawligia said:I have a Honda Shadow A.C.E. 1100.
Harley Davidson is overrated.

I have yet to come across a bike that has the same sound as the Harley, even with aftermarket pipes. Most other bikes are liquid cooled and have a smaller engine size. I'm not saying it doesn't sound good, I just think Harley's have a pretty unique sound to them.kawligia said:Me too. I have after market pipes. I haven't noticed any real difference in sound. The reason I don't care for HD is that I don't think they are well made. Everyone I know who owns one puts in in the shop at least once or twice a year. Yet it costs more than twice as much as any other similar bike.Destal said:snip
I've never had a single problem with my bike and haven't really seen anyone else with major problems. The only money I've spent is the first 1k mile checkup and it broke in great. I've seen plenty of Harley's out there with well over 100,000 miles and running fine. Part of the reason I bought it because it IS a Harley. It's a lot of fun going to the dealership on sat and hanging out with the other rides drinking coffee and having doughnuts, then of course, riding. I do love the fact that my motorcycle says Harley on the side; it's an American legend.kawligia said:I haven't noticed any real difference in sound. I bought my bike used. It's now more than 10 years old with over 50k miles on it and 2 people before me learned how to ride on it. Even with all the abuse new riders put on a bike and after all that time and mileage, my bike has only been in the shop ONCE. At that was because of hurricane damage after Katrina. Honda's are built like ROCKS.
I'm not trying to bash HD or anything, I just personally see the name as the only reason to pick it over another bike.
