It seems pretty obvious that you'd like to make a film for an older audience, so why the hell have you picked these properties?
Because the audience that grew up on these titles didn't stay children.

Take for instance your White Fang idea. That's not White Fang. That's just taking the title of an established property and trying to wring a couple more bucks out of it.
The story of something unfamiliar with the ways of "civilized" men is forced to explore both its cruelest depths and its greatest heights against the backdrop of the scenic north; how come that's not White Fang? Because it doesn't have a dog as the protagonist? It sounds more like you've got some confusion on what constitutes "building off an existing property". Especially since you think the pretty much verbatim translation of Watchmen qualifies as such.
No, they didn't stay children. But they LOVED THEM AS CHILDREN. And they don't go back cause they think that they'll be better as adult films, they go back for that bittersweet taste of nostalgia.
And you know what, fine, you caught me using words which did not properly express my meaning. Let me try again. The reason that the film you're suggesting isn't White Fang is because you're creating a story with some passing resemblance to White Fang, and using the fact that it has that passing resemblance to take its name. You're taking SOMEONE ELSE'S HARD WORK and using it as a tool for your own benefit. That's the difference between Watchmen and what you suggest. Watchmen was an homage, a testament, to the graphic novel. Your White Fang story doesn't sound like an homage to White Fang. Hell, the fact that you came here specifically looking to see what property other people might like to see makes it seem like you're more interested in what name would bring in money (since that's what the execs will be interested in) than you are in actually honoring the people who made it in the first place.
To have the balls to take the work of another artist, steal its name, put something with a vague resemblance in its place, and try to convince people that it's the same damn thing... That's what I can't wrap my head around. That's what's got me sitting here fuming. To think, what if some day someone takes one of my stories, and uses the name, and doesn't even give a fuck after that? That's not being an artist, it's being a vulture.
