I guess the poll should be "Which console did you grow up with?"
'cause I went back and played some SNES games with my bro last Christmas and holy fuck are they terrible! We tried out our entire old library and between terrible controls, glitches, and terrible graphics...

Granted at the time (meaning 20+ years ago) those games were great. But instead of aging like fine wine, they've aged like milk.
I didn't grow up with the SNES and it easily gets my vote, despite me having loads of nostalgia for the N64. I don't know what games you were playing.

Easily the SNES simply because it not only had Nintendo games but a lot of good third part titles that Nintendo has largely lacked on home consoles since. NES had some amazing ones as well but I dont feel its as strong as the SNES line up.

The SNES. It was the time when Nintendo had most of the third-party franchises in a system that looked and sounded excellent at its time.

SNES hands down. I knew that and I hasn't even born when it was around.
I feel old...

OT: I voted SNES just because it had the largest library and quite a few must-play games. It's a tough choice, though, as the gamecube and wii had some of the best first-party games nintendo's ever made. Still not enough to make up for the fact that those are generally the only great games for those systems (especially the wii).

Definitely the SNES. The games on their have a timeless quality to them, whereas going back to the N64 is really hard (early 3D games in general haven't aged very well)

Gamecube probably has the best ratio of good or even great games to bad ones of probably any console, mainly because it never had a huge amount of games, but the SNES had just more good games in general.

SNES has Lufia and more importantly , Lufia 2. It's basically no contest at that point.

Then you have all of squaresofts best RPGS on that system.

Edit: i can't believe the gamecube is winning over the N64. I don't know what games you guys were playing, but apparently you were doing it wrong.

SNES takes the cake no contest. The great thing about it is that it still lives on today in the Indy scene. Most of the greatest recent hits are all products of SNES-era design philosophy and art direction.

I feel like the 'correct' answer is the SNES but only if I take into consideration games available for all regions. (No Chrono Trigger originally for Europe)

If I take into consideration games that are available to me or soon to be available to me I'm going to choose either the 3DS or the DS. If I have to pick a home console though...I'd actually pick the Wii. There are lots of first and third party games ("real" games) that I genuinely like and I realise this makes me a dirty heathen but I actually kinda like Wii Fit Plus. Availability and price were usually better too (did any games become as rare or sought after as Chrono Trigger or Earthbound?)

(A plus point to the DS though is the console being region-free which can greatly open up the library)

Handhelds - DS
Home Console - torn between SNES and Wii (Most of the SNES games I like weren't available in my region back in the day or even available in English...and there's always the Virtual Console.)

It's very tempting to say a backwards compatible console. The WiiU with Wii BC, the virtual console and its own library (sue me, I like this console a lot) would definitely win for me if that doesn't count as cheating!

So I'm to guess no one is going to include Eshop since Wii would've had a lot of the NES, Snes and N64 Library. Not to mention backwards compatibility.

Although the gamecube had the GBA player so that gets the gameboy and Gameboy color library.

If we're counting remakes, then I'd say the 3DS, but if remakes are out, then it's the N64.

SNES by far. Way too many good games for it to lose out to any other Nintendo console in terms of its library.

Gamecube, hands down.

Why? Because of the sheer level of quality of it's best titles.

I'll grant that the SNES and N64 had more quality titles. Having had both during my formative years, I recognize the impact both had on me and the industry. I loved the hell out of them. I still have working versions of each and vividly recall fond memories of many a late night sleepover playing games like Goldeneye, Lemmings, Wipeout64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, etc, with friends.

However, that said, I would pit the likes of Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, et al, against the best either the SNES or N64 had to offer. And, for me, I find myself pointing more frequently towards the titles on the Gamecube as examples of game-design masterworks than I do titles on the SNES or N64.
