It's a hard question for me. Despite having basically the same gameplay and progression, they are all quite different. I'm in the midst of playing through the Trilogy on Wii, and I've yet to come to a conclusion. And... I won't be offended by any TL;DRs past this point.

I love the open-world nature of the original. Finding all the artifacts was a bit frustrating (how did they get there anyway o_O? In a nook beside a wall? Inside a freaking stone pillar?), but very rewarding at the end. The ending was very lacking.

Echoes has much more of a dark-fantasy type feel to it. The light/dark archetypes are just delicious, and even though recovering 'planetary energy' doesn't make sense any way you slice it, it works. It just works. The central goal is something the games before and after it lack. I'm compelled to finish this game a lot more than Prime or Corruption.

Corruption was actually the first of the trilogy that I played, two years ago. It was very difficult for me then, but it's extremely cool to play the two before it now and see how the Trilogy has progressed. It might even be my favorite - Elysia is simply the coolest place ever. I'm reserving judgment till I finish Echoes.

In all the games, I love how the story is made completely optional by having it revealed through scans - the story is good too, although pretty cliche at times, but it's a very smart feature.

I'd have to say Echoes is the best one of the three. But if Other M is showing anything it's that it will beat the pants of off all three choices.

One thing you might not realize is that 1 and 2 had a different control scheme, while it was good, it wasn't as satisfying.

Aww man....dont make me choose!
:p

Id haft to say Metroid Prime 1, just because i played it first and it BLEW ME AWAY.

The story, atmosphere, music, creatures, Art work, environments.....it was amazing.

Its one of my favorite games ever, followed closely by Metroid Prime 2 & 3.

Echos improved many things from Metroid Prime 1 but didn't pull me into the game as much as 1 did.
Corruption was a great end, the story was told a lot better and the weapon upgrades were smother and made the fighting more streamlined, plus it used the Wii-mote in some very cool ways.

Echoes was by far the best, no question.

The atmosphere, improved narration over Prime, improved scanning and combat systems, and generally more interesting puzzles and bosses vastly overcome its one shortfall; a rather drab environment structure. I felt that Prime's best strength was in Tallon IV itself, whereas Echoes' greatest strength was in the meat of the gameplay. Corruption was a nice cap to the series, and I loved how they took the series in a new, more narrative-driven direction (which I know was initiated by Fusion, arguably the best Metroid since Super Metroid).

Oh, and the Multiplayer in Echoes? Unbalanced AWESOME.

You're right, I didn't know that. I've only ever played the first two with the Wii controls (which are fantastic, and exactly the same for all three). What did they change?

The lock on is exact (you don't get to aim with your screen locked in an area) you can only look around when standing still, and it isn't as satisfying to cap enemies. It's more comfy to hold the GC controller though, even though it's less immersive.

Wait, what? Are we talking about the Wii-release (see wat i did thar) or the original games? Because there's no change in control layout from 1-2 on the GC discs.

I was more-immersed with Prime than Echoes and Corruption. The atmosphere, the music, the sounds, the layout, the way the story is told thru scanning... it's perfect, and one of my all-time favorite games. That's saying a lot, as I can't stand first-person shooters.

The other two are really good, though. If you can get your hands on a copy of MPT, I'd do so while you've got the chance.

Original was my favorite, Echoes comes pretty close but the music wasn't as good. Never could finish Corruption, just haven't had enough freedom to what with my Wii being 500 miles away most of the time for the past two years.

Tough call, but Prime wins out overall due to having the least amount of padding (that is, unskippable cutscenes that must be repeated to travel such as the temple doors in Echoes).

They all had their own boons and flaws, but due to the dark world's lack of diversity, the idiosyncratic ammo system making your super attacks nearly useless and how insanely durable some of the late game enemies were partly because of it, I would consider Echoes to be my least favorite of the three but still a great game. Would like to see more 'Sonic' upgrades used in future games to 'see' sound.

I like the traditional Metroid feel of the first game. You know, the untelegraphed boss battle locations, exploring for powerups, Ridley... I enjoyed it the most of the two I've played; I don't have a Wii so I don't really have an opinion on it.

Well, I think each had their problems, I honestly liked the second the best, though it was missing a snow themed area (I think, haven't played it in a while) My only big problem with the second was that the Luminoth and the Ing looked nothing alike, even though the "dark" versions of all the other enemies were relatively similar if more menacing, which is to be expected.

Corruption had the best gameplay but the worst atmosphere. Echoes was a little too much of the same but was still awesome. The original Metroid Prime though, is one of the highest reviewed games ever for a reason. It was something truly special and outstanding then, and it still is a marvel to play now.
