God I hated the Boost Guardian... took me about three or four tries to kill him. But hey, those of us playing the Gamecube version have to be that much better.
He's almost dead!...but you died from the atmosphere on Dark Aether.

Continue?
Cue rage face.

... then again, it's nothing compared to the first time I took on Metroid Prime.

I was one hit away from killing it- no joke, the thing had a tiny-ass sliver of health left. I had an energy tank and a half left.

The bastard spawned two Fission Metroids on me, and I was out of power bombs. The fact I still have a working TV is a miracle.
Oh, dang, that must've stunk. I don't think I have any similar experiences with Prime, either.

But the final boss of Echoes really pissed me off. And this was just going into it. So cheap...

... yikes ._.

Metroid is a weird series for me- unless I am well and truly stuck, I refuse to use any form of walkthrough/guide for it. So I just jump in blind. ... On average, how long would you say Echo's last boss takes?

It's really hard to chose one.
- Prime was new and amazing when it came out, so that adds some extra nostalgia value. Additionally the atmosphere was the best of the series.
- Echoes had the best boss battles (I like them difficult,) with more bad-ass music. I also liked the addition of Dark Samus. More solid game-play, but minus for lack of variation.
- Corruption was the most slick of them, with a more actiony feel to it. Hyper-mode was also awesome, if vastly overpowered. My main complaint about this one is that it felt more linear.

Conclusion: I can't decide, because they're all so great.

I have no idea. I never beat the final boss. >.> I didn't fight him because I hated having to constantly look up and try to fire into his one weak spot while dodging the tentacles on the sides of the walls and the tentacles that sweep the ground. Oh, and trying to collect ammo for the Light Beam for all the shots that I kept screwing up...

It's the only Metroid game I've started and haven't finished (save for Metroid 2...I had no idea what to do in that game...).

... sounds... fun...

-cries because of her inability to not complete a game-

Unless I absolutely hate it, I cannot let myself leave a game unfinished. For god's sake, I finished FFX, and that was torture!

Hopefully you'll have better luck and more patience than me at it. I think at that point I was just looking for an excuse to stop playing Echoes. The Boost Guardian kinda killed the rest of the game for me...

I'm playing Metroid Prime and Echoes for the first time (essentially, since I played a tiny bit of prime years ago but didn't like it-I think I wasn't used to the controls). I beat the Boost Guardian on my second try and honestly didn't think it was all that hard. I had more trouble with some of the earlier bosses, or even the boss I'm up to now (the one guarding the underwater propulsion jet thingy).

By this point I've played at least 1/4th to 1/3rd of both games, and I really prefer Prime over Echoes. I really like them both, but Echoes has fetch quests and that's always a negative in my book. Hunting for temple keys is lame because so often you can't get them when you first see them anyway, but have to go find the right upgrade first. So what they should have done is completely eliminate the temple keys and make it so you can't even ACCESS the temple until you have the upgrades that you needed to get the keys!

See what I mean, just eliminate a step. At least the original is honest about being almost purely, 100% about collecting upgrades for Samus.

Echoes is great and makes some excellent upgrades to Metroid gameplay (like the improved scan visor and some cool new weapons), but little niggling flaws like the comparatively uninteresting scenery and fetch quests knock it down just a bit.
