Well a couple of days ago my 360 broke (grrr red light of death) so I picked a couple of games for my ps2. I know another forum like this was posted, but I'm looking for a quality ps2 game to play in the last couple of days of my Summer holiday.
Out of all of these I want to play Psychonauts and Sly 2, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

EDIT: Ratchet&Clannk and Jak&Daxter are not allowed. I also forgot to add sly2.

God of War 2.

Blood, gore, violence (and some sex) quadrupled, with additional mythological spices.

Metal Gear Solid 2. Because if you play it after 3 the gameplay won't seem as good. Only play it if you've played the first one though, for the same reason.

One thing I like about MGS 2 over MGS 3 is the inclusion of a BUNCH of VR missions. I have yet to start the story mode on my copy (I've played throught before though), yet I've invested hours into the game already.

Of your listed choices, I would say MGS2. It has excellent gameplay and the story's... interesting. MGS3 is a good game with a cool spy story, but the gameplay suffers a bit in that they copied the same basic gameplay and difficulty level MGS2 had and removed your most powerful tool: The radar. Combine with the fact that everything, particularly russians, is brown and green in the middle of a jungle and you will probably end up being a little frustrated. Playing it sneaky all the time is quite difficult.

They are both good games, I just happpen to like MGS2 more.

I concur with the recommendation of Shadow Of The Colossus. It'll blow your mind. To bits. And is also a heck load of fun. My guy actually still won't play it because it looks too intimidating to him (and I do it so well apparently). But that intimidation leads to exhilaration and a great gaming experience!

God of War 1/2, YES Shadow of the Colossus, AND Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks which is pretty good fun for a Coop game! Also The Suffering... all of those should be pretty cheap to buy! Cos they're all pretty old! But awesome!

Persona 3, absolutely fantastic choice, but I'd also recommend the oft-forgotten Dark Cloud 2, Drakan: The Ancients' Gates, and of course Dragon Quest VIII.

If you've never played a God of War, however, you really should. Ripping good times, those games are.

For a serious game choose Metal Gear, for a hilarious game choose Psychonauts. I had them on Xbox so I can't comment on the rest.

You should buy Psychonauts because everyone should own it. But if you're trying to choose between God of War 1 and God of War 2, pick up 2, it's a much better game.

In one of my rare graphics whore moments, I'd recommend God of War 2, because imo it's making some of the next gen games look a bit rough, and its running on what...an 8 year old console? The opening scene with the huge *spoiler* and the thing where the *spoiler* happens, whoa!

Its games like this that make me wonder if the next gen perhaps came a couple of years too early.

Oh and another vote for psychonauts and SotC.

oh and 4 million votes against MGS from a personal viewpoint, when I'm playing a game, I want the waiting part to stop once the loading bar is full, not to be about half the gameplay. come onnnn...I could have killed them all by now if I wasn't made to hide in a corner with a leaf on my head.

Yes, I'm awful at MGS games.

Both God of War 1 and 2 are excellent and I can't recommend them enough. The graphics are top-notch, the combat is without peer (designed by Street Fighter pros), and there's actually a story, unlike most other games in the genre. The difficulty settings are also very variable - Easy is actually really easy, and Hard is actually punishing.

Shadow of the Colossus is a cinematic experience - if you've seen it played, you don't need to play it yourself, but if you haven't, it is definitely worth playing.

Psychonauts is great if you like longer games, but it is very slow in the beginning, so consider yourself warned.

MGS2 was a big waste I say, but #3 was far superior, although certainly not perfect. Get MGS2 at a bargain price, but MGS3 MUST be played.
