I say monitor, but look at the price of an X4 keyboard and a responsive comfortable mouse (not necessarily a gaming one). I can usually find them extremely cheaply. I have an X4 for my Hackintosh and I like it a lot. My main rig uses a G15 that pre-dates Sandybridge when my overclocks actually got hot and I needed the little screen to monitor them.

I myself am planning an upgrade to my monitor. I'm looking at upgrading my 24" LCD to a 24"-27" 3D capable monitor because the 60Hz limit is bugging me. Unfortunately I don't have the desk space for a CRT.

Monitor. I've never felt the need for a gaming mouse or keyboard. I use a good old fashioned IBM QWERTY keyboard and it's just fine. The mouse is different but not that big a deal as long as I'm comfortable using it and it works.

Visuals make a massive difference. Spring for the screen.
I hear those old IBM keyboards are amazingly good and the build quality is fantastic, plus they are mechanical unlike how 90% of new keyboards use the rubber domes.

What model do you have?
*shrugs*

I'll take a look later, at a friends right now.

I used to think there wasn't much need for a specialized gaming mouse, until I actually bought one. OH MY GOD, everything about the mouse just feels better. The mouse glides smoother, and is more precise, which means I can have my sensitivity even higher and react much more quickly. For shooters, I'd say a gaming mouse is hugely important. I didn't realize how much of a limiting factor my old mouse was until I started using my new one, and started raping face with it.

If your monitor is a CRT replace it. The new monitor will be lighter and easy to move. Gaming mice and keyboard are a crock in my opinion. All they can offer is more buttons for macros and if you have any regular keyboard then you already have enough buttons. The lightweight monitor however will serve you well.

Why the hell would you need a lightweight monitor for a desktop? Desktops are not built for their mobility after all.

What games do you play? If you play competitive games, go for a gaming mouse. In FPS' and in certain micro-centric RTS' it does make a big difference. Your CRT monitor will also be better for that.

If you mostly play single-player games, I'd get a new monitor.

My junk is typing at you as angrily as it can.

(...naw, I'm not going to fix that sentence.)

My Razer keyboard and mouse are really not junk, and I'd highly recommend Razer over any other peripheral brand I've ever used. But in your case, the monitor is the most important. Find a good deal on that.

EDIT: Only go for the monitor if you're willing to drop ~$500 on it. I got a fantastic sale on my monitor and still paid $400 for it, and it's the best out of my mouse, keyboard and monitor. If that's too pricey for you, then DON'T get a new monitor. Go for the $120 keyboard instead. Unless you do precision shooters, then spring for a $70 mouse.

Yeah CTR isnt bad. Just can be somewhat limited in overall resolutions, but the image quality is SOOOO much better on CTRs (hate aspect ration color inversion)

But you also have to consider something too, the graphics card. The graphics card might be able to handle things pretty well at 1280x1024 or whatever reso, but as the resolution increases so too does the strain on the graphics card and if you were to push up to an LCD 1080 reso monitor it very well might cause the card to chug and sputter.

With that said much as the crowd has said, honestly mouse/keyboard are really not that big of a thing to replace. Mouse to some limited extent can be if you get one with A: additional buttons, and B: higher DPi scanning such as upgrading from optical to laser. Keyboards are really irrelevant to upgrade as unless the gaming keyboard has control keys moved, then there really isnt much point to upgrade keyboards. I have a Razer Lycosa And a Saitek Eclipse 3 and both gaming wise feel the same or slightly inferior to a basic 10$ microsoft 200 keyboard.

So Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard.

And if this is related to The old republic, Monitor is absolutely the most relevant considering ToR will not require twitch reaction.

Don't get me wrong, they look nice and work fine, but they (IMO) do nothing to justify their price.

You can get a regular keyboard for anything between $10-30. This keyboard has all the keys, they all work and they work just fine. Then you go and take a look at this page [http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/list/categoryID.35156900] and see keyboards going for $80-160 and they have the exact same keys, they all work. So why drop the extra $50-100 for a keyboard.

The answer is "because it looks cool". And it isn't a bad answer, if you have extra money. But here we have a person who needs to pick between computer parts due to a lack of funds. Are you really going to tell him to drop an extra $100 to "look nicer" when that money could get him more than one of the items he wants?

Let me tell you, the only reason I use LCD is because of the lack of resolution and lack of space. I use Eyefinity, and not only would it be a pain to find a big enough desk room for several CRTs, I wouldn't get much more than 1080p total overall.

Speaking of space and money and all that. God, I wish I had the insane space and money it would take to Eyefinity 5x 1080p projectors. And the computer that could handle that resolution on all games.

Thank goodness for Moore's Law. But darned be the fact that even Moore's Law won't give me room for projecting 5 1080p projectors.

Yeah but you can't tell me that you've never adjusted your screen or needed to move the desk that your computer is sitting on. Desktops don't move often but if you do need to move it then it behooves you to have something light weight.

I don't find it worth spending extra money on a monitor just on the off chance that I'll need to move it a couple of times a year (at most).

That's fantastic. The OP asked for my opinion though and I gave it, though. I think a light screen is more useful then a new mouse or keyboard. If I may add, I don't give a flying fuck about your opinion of my opinion. I hope the OP figures out what he wants to do with his money though.

I do personally think that a keyboard is a keyboard and a mouse is a mouse. There's not much point in buying enthusiast keyboards and mice unless you're a huge keyboard gaming enthusiast, and even then it's just a luxury.

A new monitor on the other hand, is a pretty good investment in higher resolutions.

Except my $120 keyboard has some critical features:

-Microphone/speaker support (very useful for quickly swapping headphones and speakers as needed)
-Macro keys (36) for use in RPGs (really handy) and fighters (if you don't mind cheating)
-Quiet typing (for when my family is asleep)
-Backlit keyboard (immeasurably handy, considering that I normally game at night in the dark)
-"Gaming Mode" switch that turns off unneeded keys, like the Windows key (often used, I have fat fingers)
-Not breaking (first keyboard to survive over six months without any injury whatsoever)
-You're right, it looks REALLY cool

That justifies the price, I think.

(My keyboard isn't even on that list, by the way, but I think I have a variation of the Black Widow with Macros added on to it.)

Never buy a Razer, they are only guaranteed to fall apart. They make look cool, but that about it. It like buying a high-end sports car with the body of a high end sports car, and the cheapest motor in the junkyard.

And then I have pretty much the direct opposite experience. Hmmmm.
