It's seems as if recently someone from the film industry has picked up the latest folio of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work and decided that there needs to be visual representation of it all at the same time. With the latest Sherlock Holmes film out in theaters, the next season of Sherlock coming out in the UK on New Year's Day, and with House in the middle of its 8th season (wow, is it really 8?), what does everyone prefer?

Note: "Other" is a category since I'm not on the pulse of a lot of television shows outside of the USA, and since House is a option, I'll have "Other" represent other "Sherlock-like" characters that aren't represented in the first three options.
The BBC miniseries sherlock, and i'm listening to the OST right now. so, yeah i'm going with Sherlock, even though there are only 3 episodes, it's the best portrayal i've seen to this day.

The BBC series, it's so fucking good. Benedict Cumberbatch is such a good actor (also he's voicing Smaug in The Hobbit).

Ouch, you got me there with the tie between BBC's Sherlock and House. Love them both and watch both shows religiously. Still have to go with Benedict Cumberbatch's version though, I'm madly impressed with his acting and the way they've modernized the show, while still making it feel very authentic.

I saw both of Guy Ritchie´s Sherlock Holmes movies, and while okay, there was something that was missing... Kraken. No Kraken in a Sherlock Holmes movie? And not a single mechanical dragon destroying London? Weeeak.

Steampunk + Sherlock Holmes = Awesome. Asylum wins.

Lt. Commander Data, when he's messing around on the holodeck. ;p

I'm joking obviously. Unfortunately, I know neither the original source material, nor any of the films or series you're actually discussing.

So it's kind of difficult to give a meaningful answer when you've got so little to work with. XD

I haven't watched any of them. I just wanted to say Benedict Cumberbatch is the best name ever.
Get this, his full name is Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch. He is the living embodiment of this trope. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AwesomeMcCoolname]

And as I have never seen the films or House, and how Series 2 ending has been the days discussion all through out the school day, the BBC adaptation takes the cake.

If it does count, this!

However, I haven't seen any other Sherlock Holmes recently besides Iron Man's portrayal of him soo... I vote that way.

I like Downeys version, I like how it makes him into more of an savant type- yeah he's brilliant and an utter badass but he's also quite fragile and maladjusted.

The BBC version is abit too tame for me, I find the "Holmes is just a bit of an arse (but is actually really sweet underneath it all)" to be borderline Sue territory.

And House just needs to stop, "jumping the shark" doesnt even begin to describe that show nowadays.

EDIT= Another reason why I prefer the films is how Watson is treated, in the TV show he's like a devoted pet that makes googly eyes at Holmes whenever he does something cool and to be honest the military past bit has shades of the "Informed Ability" trope, whereas in the film he's pretty much Holmes's equal.

I like the Robert Downey Jr. one, why? Because his character is hilarious. Imagine Jack Sparrow but being much more narcissitic.

I'm going to show my age now and say... Peter Cushing, anyone?!

...

Half of you whippersnappers probably don't even know who he is... actually, I take that back...

OT: Benedict Cumberbatch, by a long shot... though the new incarnation of Moriarty is rather delightful... (must think of more appropriate word...)

His version of Hound of the Baskervilles is the best one Ive seen.

Basil Rathbone wasn't half bad either.

While house is an interesting show to watch, I eventually got bored by the repetition of the cases they handled. Therefore, I have to go with the BBC mini-series, which I find surprisingly good.

Of course, if we take out the flaws of the actual movies/series, House is still the most awesome Sherlock Holmes of them all. The two movies ranged from average (first) to bad (second), so Robert Downey Jr. can suck it.

The BBC series is a ridiculously good production with a well thought out cast, not to say I didn't like the movies. I feel the director chose the actors for Sherlock and Watson well. The rest of the cast however, all except for Mycroft who was played well by Stephen Fry but not portrayed as well by the writers, were just a bit meh. I just didn't love them. Also, you can't grate cheese on Robet Downey Jr's cheek bones.
