40k has had many games based on it, Firewarrior was a decent, if slightly under the radar FPS that I felt showed off most of the weapons in 40k a lot better than DoW did.
The trouble with Fire Warrior is that, well, it's in the title. Who wants to be a Fire Warrior? (except strange people who play Tau, of course) Seriously, Marines are the iconic 40k dudes, you wanna be them, not puny Tau. Hell, even the T-Shirt and Flashlight brigade would be better...

(Though I think it would be interesting to be a bit more off the wall, do a full on Splinter Cell style stealth game as a Vindicare Assassin)

Starship troopers as it was written by Heinlein would suck so much ass as a game, it would be no different from all the other shooters out there if you took out all that stuff out.

I voted "Other"

Because I Feel that the many animes and Sci-Fi Series' depicting large mobile battle-suits with Beam-sabres and Plasma-rifles would make an excellent game if developers actually took the time to sit down and develop it...rather than take some shitty company to mesh together one game with another, and just re-skin it.

The Armored Core, and Mech-Warrior games have been amazing for me to play in the short time that I've played Video games, and I'm rightly saddened by the fact that more of this type of game don't exist.

Ugh, Dark Angel. That's your book marked.

Anyhoo, I concur with Firefly, Farscape, Rein of Fire, Hitchikers Guide (I remember a text adventure based on it that was pretty good).

I'd like to add William Gibson's cyberpunk setting - the one used for Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive etc. That's such a detailed and interesting setting, I'd love to see a game set in it. Probably work best for a 1st person RPG like Deus Ex, and they'd have to include the Matrix bits properly, with 3D coloured visual representations of networks etc.

Doctor Who has been mentioned, but the ideas so far are just horrible. An adventure game or RPG where you play an incarnation of the Doctor would be great. Lots of puzzles and challenges. Definitely no guns, at least for your character - one of the Doctor's fundamental tenets is that he never uses a gun. It'd be best if they tried for the more creepy feel of some of the more scary episodes (Empty Child, Doctor Dances, Blink, Family of Blood).

An Event Horizon based game might be immensely cool too.

i picked other and that other would be the universe from Necromunda. i would like to play as Kal Jerico, Sinden Kass, and maybe someone from house Cawdor, like Cardinal Crimson, or Volk.
i would rule the underhive with meltagun in one hand, and Yolanda in the other.

Star Trek and 40k have both already had a lot of shots, some good, most bad, but they've had chances. Since the world needs an honest to god tactical fleet game, or a really interesting space fighter game, or a bioware-made mass effect-styled adventure game would all be fun. Add to that the fact that there's just a lot of potential things to do with a B5 game. Set it after the serieses, and it becomes a 'find a cure for earth' game, set it before the series and there's the centauri/narn war, the minbari war, any of those. There were enough episodes with events that you could reasonably make a game that just took place during the actual series itself. The second centauri/narn war, the shadow war, the minbari civil war, etc etc. A real fleet game set like that- aligning your ships along the best attack axis for your weapons complement, arranging battle plans, redistributing power systems, etc would be really fun, even if it only centered around a single player one-faction campaign.

Or if it were a god's honest space fighter sim, where constant thrust and velocity weren't synonymous, where it wasn't a flashy, splashy frenzy of particle effects and light making enemies impossible to target. Hell unlockables for that like a Shadow or Vorlon fighter would be utterly reasonable and could even allow you to incorporate player-decision-story-affecting bits. Like if you play as a good guy you get a vorlon ship. That's just my opinion though.

has anyone ever heard of Mantis? it's a show from the early 90s bout a paralyzed guy who gets a powered armor suit and fights....somebody... he was almost like a sci-fi Batman. i was a little kid, and remember little of it.
but something based around that guy would be cool.

'Twould be ownage, but how the hell would you implement it? There's serrrrious tech flying about in that setting and it would take careful (and frankly unrealistic) balancing to prevent every game descending into CAM shower/gridfire spamming mayhem.

I'm going with Warhammer 40k all the way on this one. It may be "big", as someone said, but to me that is an asset, not a liability. That simply means that there are any number of approaches you can take to making a game out of it; you don't have to represent every aspect of the universe in a single exposition. I think a squad-based FPS featuring a bunch of Space Marines would be nothing short of sheer awesomeness or, perhaps a Battlefield-style on-line FPS featuring a couple of the factions? Again, made of pure win. You could even go for an Inquisitor-based RPG type thing. The problem with the 40k license is that they keep handing it to inept developers who butcher it to the point of being utterly craptastic (disclaimer: this excludes Dawn of War). I remember being totally psyched when Squad Command (PSP, DS) was announced: turn-based tactical squad combat featuring Space Marines? Hello, sign me up! (yes, I'm a sucker for "tactics" games, sue me) But the game ended up being so entirely sub par that not even bolters and chainswords could save it from mediocrity.

Uh, I'm going to go with Stargate. It's already combat based, there are tons of potential enemies and weapons, plenty of established possible fight scenes, and most importatly the story is rather flexible so fans of the show won't freak over whether it will fit with the mythos or not. Ideal for a shooter.

I voted 40k because there is a lot of room for plot and a lot of stuff to kill. I think a Battle Field type multiplayer game with different classes and vehicles would be fun. It would also be very hard to balance between the different sides.

For single player, a KOTOR type RPG based around the player being an Inquisitor would be great. It gives a player the chance to freely explore the universe, build a character, and customize fighting party. Hopefully Dan Abnett could be convinced to write for it. I really liked his Ravenor books.

Farscape.

Edit: or Ringworld (like Halo but better and with far more exploration/politics/epic wars), or the Foundation trilogy.

I don't see Firefly as being a good console game (PC for sure), but Angel sure would kick ass.

I voted for 40K. The universe is so expansive that you can do almost ANYTHING you want with it.

Interestingly enough when I played Gears of War what made me enjoy the game was imagining that it was the story of two Space Marine scouts cleansing a Genestealer infestation (because that is blatantly what it was *coughdarkangelscough*) so I feel, as someone has already mentioned here that a 3rd person shooter involving Space Marines would be extraordinary as long as you can maintain the gritty 40K feel. Hell what would make that game perfect is if you could play as other races too that had different ways of fighting, play as an Eldar Dire Avenger, or a Striking Scorpion, or why not an Imperial Guard seargant? I think that would be incredible if done properly.

One does not have to capture all of Warhammer in the game, just the feel of the universe enough to convey at least semi-accurately how planets in the Imperium operate (because let's face it: fluff Space Marines vary so wildly in ability that you could get away with almost anything). Just as long as we don't have any more lowly fire warriors blowing away entire regiments of Space Marines and then chowing down a Greater Daemon of Tzeentch for desert.

I know its been done before on lots of consoles but I love the Shadowrun universe and would love to see a new next gen rpg made based on it, rather than the fps.

All of Warhammer was developed to be a game universe ^^
