i usually spread on the top side, but sometimes on the bottom. sometimes when making a sandwich I accidentely spread the mayo on the wrong side and i have to start the sandwich over. regardless though, i think it tastes best to spread on the top. which side do you spread on?

When I make bread and butter to go with soup, I typically butter the top of the bread and then fold it in half so that the butter is on the inside. Best way to eat it, true story.

Wait... can't you just flip bread over? Is there really a set top and bottom?

I'm so confused.

Agreed. I was under the impression that bread slices didn't have a top or bottom unless something was spread upon them. After that occurrence, THEN values equaling 'top' or 'bottom' could then be assigned.

Wait, you don't know? Fine, I'll explain.

You see, this is the top of the bread:

and this is the bottom:

I can't believe that I have to explain this. I thought it was common knowledge!

I don't...what?

For butter, the side that is facing upward? It's not like I'm going to butter the side that's on the plate, obviously.

For mayo, etc? It's pretty rare for me to use anything that requires spread, and the rare occasions that do, like spreading cream cheese on a bagel, actually have me spreading on both sides and then combing the two. Same with peanut butter and jelly.

Ah thanks now I understand!
I totally spread butter on the top.

Neither one. I take my butter-consuming tips from Roy Biggins: eat the whole stick in one sitting.

I spread the butter along the crust, and then I do the same to several other pieces of bread and then I stick them together to make a sort of bread-octagon.

Anytime! If you ever want to know which is your right or left sock or what the top and bottom of a ball is, let me know

I spread the butter on my bottom obviously, as I have no desire to cover my clothing with butter.

Oh, you were talking about bread! I put it on the bread, my memory is too strange for me to remain cosistent with things like that. I usually flip my sandwiches over a few times as I eat them anyway so it really does not matter.

Those are both tops, the bottom should have been reversed
