I won't get it if it's a subscription fee, simple as that. And based on what I can tell, that means I probably won't be getting it.

Shame.

You people seem to think that Guild Wars is a shining bastion of how MMO's should be, without actually considering a number of factors such as: Guild Wars never updated itself with mini patches that added a few quests, items, perhaps a raid, here and there. They had big ass expansions with huge gaping holes between each expansion, while the whole enviroment of it wasn't neccessarily an MMO enviorment, more so single player with home hubs and no need for huge clumps of people cluttering up whole game servers in one area of the world. And so, there's no real need for the up keep most MMO's demand, mostly down to said aformentioned points.

I'm sure most of you also realise that if it is free to play but with an initial purchase cost, the game developers will also deprive you of as much content as possible, while thrusting down a million and one oppurtunities to "un lock content" for a "small fee" of $9.99 for perhaps a zone, $24.99 if you want a few at a bargain rate; while also hammering down millions of oppurtunities to get a magical turtle mount which adds +3 l33tness to your character, for a mere $15.99, providing you with the "choice" to look as uber as possible. They may also be so graceful as to add an item to the cash shop(or perhaps a few "items", tut), which without, you wouldn't be able to access end game content, but you know, they're so damn wonderful to have provided you with A FREE LEVELLING PROCESS that it's only KIND OF YOU to have TO PAY to GET ANY FURTHER ENJOYMENT out of the game.

You know, because paying £8 a month to play an MMO that receives ridiculously regular updates, bug fixes in minutes, constant developer feedback and an absorbingly large amount of deeply involving and, le gasp (!), challenging content is too much of a risk for folk around here. :| I struggle to maintain buying an 8 hour game (that provides as much enjoyment as stabbing myself in the face repeatedly after the first playthrough) every month; which by no stretch of the imagination is ridiculous, but MOST pay to play MMOs offer MUCH, MUCH MORE than just a tiny amount of enjoyment for such a meager price, especially when the value of said MMO skyrockets in comparison to buying the same shite that most developers crank out for £55 a piece every year.

And you people ***** about second hand copies and how such "piracy" is crippling the games market, well how about instead of CHURNING out un inspired, blatant crap every year with the shiniest l33t graphics in existence, how about you create awe inspiring games that ARE ACTUALLY FRIGGING WORTH A CHUNK OF MY DISPOSABLE INCOME. Sweet lord.

I went completely off topic there. Wonderful. My point still remains, though. You want value? Have value, but be prepared to have everything taken away from you that you would deem normal for a pay to play MMO to provide.

Yeah... But Guild Wars 2 will prove to the world that you dont need a p2p to get a triple A mmorpg experince. It has inovation in so much of it. Its world will be huge, graphics nice, no holy tinity... and most likely it will be added with free content since they said they probably will not have stand-alone expansions like they did with 1.

um... also ever play Runes of Magic? Yeah three expansion packs? All free? You don't have to pay for a single cent of the content?

OT: though if it does go how GW does, I will probably get it.

Considering everything I've seen about the game makes it looks like it's basically KOTOR with online support, they're best off with a Free-To-Play w/ Micropayments model.

I like either the free-to-play one or the life-time subscription. I voted for life-time though. I mean, $200 for the rest of your life? That's a pretty sweet deal. I wish more games did that.

I vote for fees like WoW. All this talk about how "free to play" would be better and paying for little add-ons is not really a good idea. If you start adding that up, it will more than likely cost MORE to pay than for a small fee every few month/s/years.

Besides, if WoW is on top, they are at the top for a reason.

Since completely free is not feasible, I'd rather just shell out $200 at the beginning of my journey and play the game until I'm done. I'm quite sure I would get my $200 worth...
