OK, for boring reasons I will be staying overseas (overland?) living out of a suitcase for my almost 4-week-long Winter break for Christmas and New Year.

For the majority of that time I will have nothing to do (unless someone knows something fun to do in Qatar) but baggage limits means I can only take one gaming system with me due to weight/space requirements, yet this is coming at a time when a tidal wave of great new games are coming out and considering others I still haven't had time to play I need helps from The Escapist Community to decide which is the best platform for this time.

Also which do you think has the best line-up for this holiday? I'm not just talking "which has most exclusives" I'm talking about PASSION for games, not why to ignore the other systems but why you can't go without a particular system for what it will be having.

I'm very fortunate to own a PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360 and a Gaming PC but for the sake of speculation lets throw in Wii and any other game platform, which would be the single best option to sait one's gaming needs over a whole holiday? For me my Gaming PC would be automatic only it is just so big and heavy I think it will most likely be PS3 or 360, but I really can't decide which. Oh, decisions.

ITT: gaming connoisseurs who appreciate gaming in all forms deciding which is the one they would chose if they could have only one. A kind of "Desert Island Discs" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk6OVqiETGA] but of gaming. This is about really thinking about what you can and can't give up.

Not ITT: Console fanboyism of people declaring their system of choice absolutely superior to all others. This is a balance of pros and cons for the short term. No one system is so perfect it renders the others superfluous. NO BASHING! I don't want to hear about how "hurr, Wii is crap" this is an opportunity to be POSITIVE for a given system, possibly comparisons but don't push it.

I'd go with the gaming pc. With the biggest release imo being Skyrim, it would be better for you to take the PC. Plus there is a huge steam sale on right now and there will be another one at the end of this year so you can grab heaps of awesome pc games for ridiculously low prices.

PC, obviously. Order the latest gee wiz components and put it together while listening to music and drinking beer while snow is falling outside.

Fuck yeah, Christmas PC building.

Edit: Jesus, you're in Qatar? Forget the snow and beer bit.

PC , mainly because of Skyrim. But if it's not your thing, pick either the XBOX or PS3 for Arkham City.

yeah, gaming pc. skyrim will be so much better on pc due to mods etc, and then you also have SS3:BFE out a couple of weeks after, and then asscreed and batman to be released for PC. also, you can use steam to download the games pretty easily, wheras for a console you would have to have a physical copy.

and you don't want to be accidently leaving your physical copy behind xD

I dare decree Pc seems to be the pro choice. No need to worry about those pesky Frisbee disks either.

Go with the PC, you'll have your games and you'll still be able to surf your favourite sites*; oh and lets not forget all the free-to-play titles for PC only.

[small]* Im assuming you'll have an internet connection here[/small]

I'd take my PSP or DS, because they're extremely portable and I have a huge backlog of games.

Though if I had a gaming laptop I'd take that too.

PC seems to be doing solidly, except my PC is FUGGING HUGE! It alone is too wide in any dimension to fit in my largest suitcase and anyway maxes out my weight limit. Also I DO NOT TRUST the baggage handlers to not throw it around and find my GPU had sheared off my motherboard.

I really don't think my PC is an option, as much as I'll miss it.

Well, if you can't take your PC, it doesn't really matter whether you take Xbox 360 or PS3 as they're basically the same anyway, unless there are certain exclusives you absolutely want to play, or you prefer one controller over another. The PS3 comes in smaller models (I think), which could be easier for transportation, so that might be important.

Steam Winter Sale.

Fuck Yeah.

So, yes, a PC, especially since you can get some older games which a laptop should be able to run for dirt cheap.

technically, just add cash to your Steam wallet and make sure your bro doesn't gift them to himself you don't need to give out your credit card info. I've never tried, but I'm sure you can at least buy the games and credit them to your account, even if you don't install it.

Well I have both the original big 360 and original big PS3, though I suppose 360 wins on size there.

I do prefer the 360 controller, crisper shoulder buttons and firmer thumbsticks. I have a rubber mould-on handle extensions on my PS3 controller that without I just find too small for my huge hands (so. much. innuendo). Also concave thumstick tips and FPS-Freek stick extensions and snap on concave L2/R2 triggers, you can hardly see my PS3 controller under all the things I have clipped onto it. Doesn't change how stodgy the buttons are (except face buttons) and how the thumbsticks just have no where near enough resistance for my tastes.

PS3 exclusives are tough. Uncharted 3 looks AHMEEEZING(!) but I don't care about the online multiplayer and the single player is apparently not that long. Resistance 3 has me most interested, especially after Yahtzee's review and those of others.

I did get Red Dead Redemption for 360 for the controls and performance reasons, that's a game I can see spending a lot of time on. Also got Halo Reach that I have not played yet. There is no Xbox Live in the middle east (go figure) and this is the first time I want to have the COD experience on a console, so that draws me toward PS3 as the only option... though I hear connectivity is terrible. Last time I lived in middle east it was all PC games like Counterstrike, with user administrated servers they could actually be run in a sensible way.

Though I may play MW3 just for the co-op split-screen with my Dad or Sister. 360 is best for split screen and I have 2 xbox 360 controllers.

Then of course there is 360's HD-output via VGA, means I can turn any computer monitor I can find into a place for HD gaming. lot more flexibility there.

I'm leaning towards 360 at the moment.
