I am interested if there is a correlation between how much the system costs and the chances of a RROD.
I'm looking into purchasing one and want to avoid the fatal RED RING if I can.

This is a study, so try to keep it above. "they all die, I hate them" unless this is your experience.
Also please note if you've had more than one fail.

Apologies if this has been investigated before. I'm interested in the findings.

Edited to include catergories for problem free systems.

Alright, this is the second one you've posted now with no text. Make sure to just stay away from the post button until you've finished typing, and edit your old thread instead of making a new one.

In the spirit of what I believe you are trying to say, I have lost my regular, but it wasn't RROD, just a graphics card failure. Cost me $100 to fix.

Lots of people have looked but not answered the poll. Any input is helpful.

Thanks

Never had the three red ring o' death syndrome, but I have had the one ring o' death syndrome which has to do with the memory unit apparently.

Well, I went through three Pro's or 'Premium's' as they were once known and they all had the RROD so I bought an Elite and I've never had a problem with it in the last 7 months. So if I were you I'd go for the Elite as the black looks awesome and now you can install games you're gonna need the 120 gb hard drive.

Old first run "pros" had something like a 33% failure rate so yeah. Its meant to be like 3% now.

My Elite red-ringed Thursday evening while I had some vacation days off. Suffice to say the timing was ridiculously bad, and I was really surprised that the Elite suffered this problem. I had bought it assuming the Elite was basically immune to this problem.

Had bought it September 2007, so I guess it's good I got better than a year with no problem, but still irked since I already know my girlfriend bought me "Prince of Persia" for Christmas. Probably not going to get it back on time; not to mention my after-work Orange Box fix.

Most people seem to have had the problem with the original pro/core units. Once the Elite came out the problem was severely decreased, and is almost non-existant with newer pro consoles and the arcade sku.

I personally have a pro unit, which RROD'd once, after being in service for a year and a half. I got mine right before they started releasing the new chips, so while not actually a launch console (I bought it November 2006) I believe it was the same hardware configuration.

So far my box (purchased in July 2007) has yet to red ring. But we shall see, my brothers JUST red ringed and he only bought his a few months before I did.

Did it stop transmitting to your TV for no apparent reason? That's what happened to me, and I'm trying to figure out why. It stopped working as soon as I got back from Best Buy with Prince of Persia in hand, too. Damn, that made me mad.

I got a Core package a hlf a year after launch, and earlier this week, it started "One red lighting". So now I'm trying to deliberatly break it to tepoint where it has three red lights. I know this seems dishonest, but i don't see why one problem shold be covered for three years, and another not.

Flawed methodology.

If many more people by Pros than Elites, you will see a higher count of Pro red-rings even if the failure rate is the same as or lower than an Elite's.

At the very least, you need to group the negative results into separate categories for Elite, Pro, and Arcade as well.

No, I mean, I got a red ring that told me there was a graphics card failure.

Was that the E74 fault? I had one of those too.

Here [http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/Gorzakk/dammit.jpg] is my Xbox Elite.

Yeah, E74. One segment lit up, top right I believe.
