I picked other because I just couldn't select any in particular. Just listened to "Roll Over Beethoven" & "I Ain't Superstitious". Classic stuff. I also love and have a great deal of respect towards the 60's and 70's rock and early heavy metal (Been listening to Hendrix and Zeppelin all day today), but I like me some 80's thrash metal too (FUCKIN' SLAYAAA!1! and such). Then again, there were some cool and creative acts in the 90's (Also, Muse and System of a Down were formed in those years, and I can't deny liking them). The first decade of the new millenium had it's moments too, with some old bands releasing cool new albums (I actually liked the last few Megadeth and Slayer albums, and Dio, Tony, Geezer and Vinny are kickin' ass as Heaven & Hell).

Alright - It may be a little unfair to cut away the rest of your post. I must stress, in that regard, that you do make valid points - and bring out excellent "musical arguments". Still, while I can agree somewhat - I still cannot entirely, as, for me (which you acknowledge) the 60s/70s are more influential than the 90s.

Returning to the above quotation: I'm not arguing with ones whose favourite albums stems from a particular decade, as that is something I can easily accept and respect. Especially if these people also turn out not to be idiots.

Cheers man :)
Hey, yeah it's a debate I've had loads with my bandmates and with my parents so I'm quite well rehearsed :)

Although, I actually may have to agree with you more: since posting here I've had to go on a massive King Crimson binge! So yeah, maybe they're both equal in my eyes now lol.

What happened to music where people actually sang?

Guys like Anthony Hamilton languish in relative anonymity, while an auto-tune ***** like T-Pain sells platinum hits?

The 1910s. Some very good composers working in that decade; Sibelius, Ravel, hell, all three of my favorite Stravinsky ballets (The Firebird, Petrushka, and The Rite of Spring)...

90s, 90s, 90s! Simply because music was at its most diverse and interesting. Sure, there was plenty of dross, but in every decade there was. You seperate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, and you'll get the most diverse, interesting, and brilliant music.

Things have certainly become less interesting and more safe since, a lot of experimental and expanding movements seem to have settled in their niches and it's all a little bit boring.
Less interesting and more safe since? I can agree.

But what is more "interesting" and, I assume, innovative? The 90s with the birth of no specific genre, but a lot of experimenting in those already-established genres... Or the creation of "rock" in 60s and 70s? When it had not existed before that?
You know rock was officially born in the late 40s (probably much earlier as it was performed allready by the afro-american communities) right? 60s and 70s saw it expanding and spawning many other modern types of music. Almost everything u can listen today (metal, gothic, hip-hop, pop, house, etc) evolved from rock.

I went for the 80s cause I just love the 80s, was the last decade having a culture of its own in my opinion, everything done from the 90s to this day had been tried out before, and probably when I pick the 80s music its not just the music that I think about everything else, movies, cloths, hair styles (and mind, hair colors). Beside the cars and the reality shows I hardly can see diferences between 2010 and, say, 1996. I would see many more diferences between 1996 and 1989.

The 70s without a shadow of a doubt!
The early 70s still had the Beatles buzz hanging around the air, metal was born with the arrival of bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and most importantly...
'77 brought the Punk Rock explosion with so many incredible bands such as The Clash, Sex Pistols, Misfits, Black Flag etc etc. '77 was the greatest year in musical history!

Any year. I love every year as long as it had good music.
Yeah, pretty much. There is fantastic stuff from every year, and there is shitty stuff from every year. It all depends.

However, if you forced me to pick, it's a tossup between the '60s and the late '00s for me.

The 70's had all the classic heavy metal (Anthrax, Black Sabbath) so I chose that.

There's so much good come out of every decade, I couldn't possibly choose one. In terms of my music collection, it's mostly 90s and 2000s, simply because that's when I happened to have enough disposable income to waste hundreds of pounds on CDs every month.

Well, there is no such thing as 'a decade of the best music', as music is a pretty subjective matter, but for me, it is either the '90s or this decade that we live in right now.

I know, I know, the majority of music is shitty pop and rap that they like to show on MTV, but if you look through my Winamp, mostly everything I listen to is from this decade. One of my all-time favourite bands - System of a Down - is from this decade, although they started in the '90s, but their best albums are from the 2000's.

Other bands I like are, for example, Alestorm, who released their first studio album pretty recently. Rise Against, again, mostly during the recent years.

Well, okay, half of Clutch is from the '90s, but my favorite album from them - Robot Hive/Exodus - is from 2006.

Biffy Clyro, who I've started recently listening to, but already love alot, have made albums in this decade. Hell, my most favourite album from them is from last year, not the ones before it.

Anyway, you get my point. While songs from the '70s, '80s and '90s may be, overall, more memorable, and have influenced a hell of a lot more, then I picked this decade, as it is the one I most like in terms of music.

Specifically 1941 because that year is when the Ink Spots released

Personally, my favourite decades for music were the 70's and the 80's, thanks to the rise of thrash metal, and the new wave of British heavy metal. Still, I won't deny that the 60's were awesome, what with the Beatles and all, but its classic metal all the way for me.

Every time has good music, I don't think there's any decade which had not at least one excellent musician.
