Super underrated/undiscovered Zelda game: The Minish Cap on the GBA
I played that, you know. Great game, my second favorite overall. I've played them all EXCEPT for these 4. But people seem to ignore that and keep suggesting shit I've already played. The color is so that people read this and stop suggesting these games. Nothing personal to you.

I just got a Wii on Christmas, so I picked up a ton of GC/Wii games.

And now I just don't know where to start. I've never played any non-handheld Zelda game before, and I suddenly own the Collector's Edition, which includes Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I also bought Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (Wii version).

WHERE DO I START?!

I never played ANY of these before. Except for a demo of Wind Waker at a store.

Edit: I did play the original NES Zelda before, to anyone who suggested that. It was on the GBA. Also, Phantom Hourglass AND Spirit Tracks suck due to excessive and boring travel, imo. My current favorite game is Oracle of Seasons. And I played Link to the Past before on GBA, too.

Play Ocarina of Time first if you like the Zelda series, you'll definitely like that one and it's a great adventure to start off with. Fuck all the arguments about which one is best, Oot is a great story and is easy to get into. Play Majora's Mask afterward because it leads directly from Oot. It's unlike any other Zelda game in the series, seriously. It's still a great game either despite the difference or because of it.

Afterward you can either go from the dark mood of Majora's Mask into the (more?)dark Twilight Princess game or lighten the mood with Wind Waker before delving into the darkness again with TW.

For the sake of the order of the storyline Oot comes first, then MM, WW, and finally TW.

This is as clear as I can be for you instead of some posters needlessly arguing amongst themselves

Well, I would still start with Link to the Past... It really is best of the 2D ones

But out of the ones that you put up there- I would start with Ocarina of Time, just because its the first of the 3D ones- and you learn the trends they go through in the subsequent sequels.

Majora's Mask is the best of them, though- in my opnion

It pretty much unanimous for Ocarina of Time, it seems. Now, if only I didn't have to use the ridiculously uncomfortable GC controller...Fuck you, Nintendo, and your oddly shaped contollers.

I'll give it a whirl, if I don't like it and/or find its graphics have aged EXTREMELY TERRIBLY, I'll go with Wind Waker. As its different. And the sailing can't be worse than PH.

It might be one of those things you need to adjust to, the blocky graphics and movement I mean, you should least try to get to the first temple before dumping it. Also I found it really difficult to use the ol' N64 controller again after playing the Gamecube for so long, I couldn't really be bothered but thats because it's all on the Wii forme anyways.

Of course I am talking about Ocarina of Time, like everyone else said you might as well start from the begining and work your way through.

This is why I'll always prefer hand-drawn or 2D or stylized games. The graphics age well.

Who would dare call these ugly:

Play WindWaker second. After OOT.

Or, if you don't mind time limits within a game. Like in Pikmin 1, for example. Play Majora's Mask second. WindWaker third.

In my personal opinion, the sailing on WindWaker wasn't awful at all. Satisfactory, if anything.

I really did not like Ocarina of Time. I started with Twilight Princess though, and that was fantastic.

Wind Waker. Possibly one of the best Zelda games in history.
You may be slightly biased. *looks at name and avatar*

Slightly.

But I'll going to play them all. Well, maybe not MM, because I fucking hate time limits.

i'm voting OoT. it's pure awesome and, even though TP is too, TP is a bit more complicated so would be best to start with OoT.

if you thought the traveling in the DS ones were boring, you will not be any happier with Wind Waker.
HELL yes. the sailing was SO bad. it wasn't because the trips took ages or you had to do them a lot, it was because they took ages AND you had to do them a lot. would have been great if Link whipped out a GBA/DS during the long trips.

I have Ocarina on the 64, the controls suck ass. I don't know about the Gamecube verison, but whatever. I haven't played much of Windwaker because I'm at the second dungeon and completly lost. I'm working on that.

The Oracle games are awesome, but I still like Twilight Princess. It's the only one I'm competent at, for some reason.
Really, It's your choice. Won't affect much, but Ocarina of Time has good music and is referanced constantly in the other games.
