Of the people who had press conference, which were Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, and EA (please note if I missed one, I wasn't sure if Konami was having a press conference after the disaster of 2010's, nor could I find anyone covering it if does exist) which one did you guys think was the best presentation. Not the one with the games, new features, and console your the most excited about, but who was the best at presenting their games, features and consoles. Which presentation made you more excited about what was shown, make you want to buy the games announced, and who made you want to keep watching for an hour because you were enjoying yourself?
For me, I thought Sony's was the best. While they didn't bring out Kevin Butler, they did keep their presentation of games more varied than the competition, making sure each showing of a game was exciting and each one got attention they deserved. They also were pushing that they were the console for new gaming experiences, showcasing things such as the Assassin Creed ship battles, putting Beyond the very first thing on the show, and ending with the Last Ones. The announcer was likable, sounding like he understood the current gaming community better than the announcers for the other press conferences. The tone was a lot friendlier than the others, thanking them the people for coming and giving out the one year Playstation plus, which I thought was a nice way gift, as well as a clever way to get the press to speak of Playstation plus's graces.
It did have it's flaws. While the people playing onstage didn't really sell that they were playing the games, at least they put some effort into it. The "Spell Book" demonstration was pretty terrible as well.
However, overall they kept the presentation moving at a good beat and kept it interesting throughout. It actually made me want to get a PS3, a little bit anyway.
Optional: Who did you think had the worst presentation of the five? Who did you think ruined your chances of buying their games, or made you want to exit out of the stream due to anger or boredom?
I felt the worse was Microsoft. The rather smaller selection of games seamed to be very limited in scope (either shooters, sports, or Kinect games) while appearing to rush through them all, ofter jamming the trailer for one game in front of another with giving many details about either. What little was seen of the actual games was dull, cliche, and made the games look like every other game released in the last 6 years, with slaps to the face with contradictions of canon and tone of the games (why is Master Chief fighting Elites again? Why is Sam Fisher in a desert mowing through bad guys in the least stealthiest manner possible? Why is a the trailer for Gears set to metal instead of slower, somber music?) Microsoft seamed desperate to get to three things out at the cost for the games: trying to sell the Kinect, trying to sell their new phone connectiviy, and Usher. Oh god was the Ursher performance bad on so many levels. The announcer was annoying (the constant use of "Xbox" without 360, and treating it as if they worked at "Xbox" and not at Microsoft got old very fast), arrogant (all but saying that you will experience the second coming if you own an "Xbox"), boring, and a liar ("Only GREAT games are on Xbox"). It felt like he was reading transcript written by a man who regard the audience as idiots. The entire thing was set up just like last year's one, with Halo 4 replacing CoD as the opener (it still managed to be the closer, formatted the exact same way as last year's showing of CoD, and year before that...) and some Kinect moved out of the way to gush over TV deals, sports, and the smart phone deals.
It did have it's upsides though, or should I say, upside. The phone connectivity got me interested for a bit, promising to upend the WiiU without having to buy any new devices (well, I would need to buy both an Xbox 360 and a smart phone, but that is besides the point).
All and all though, it was a disaster. One of the worst showings from one of the big three I have seen in years. Nowhere near the level of Konami's 2010's press conference, but still very bad.
