My vote goes to Black Isle... Wait Black Isle is not an option? Ok my vote goes to Bioware, Baldur's Gate 2 is simply one of the best RPGs ever.

well each of theese companys have diffrent methods for there games.

bioware have an emphasis on story (there typical stories include an epic quest to take down a a inposing enemy and gaining allies) and combat mechanics.

square enix stick with the traditional JRPG formula. But in my opinion they have WAY too many final fantasys.

and bethesda have the emphasis on open world gameplay where the player can engauge in any situation as the player would. And there storys always have a sence of mystery (eg at the start of fallout 3 when you leave the vault the player wants to find out the fate of james)

Why is there no option for "none of the above" - Bioware makes shitty games with decent writing, Square Enix makes sorta shitty games with sorta shitty writing, Bethesda makes pretty ok games with REALLY shitty writing.

No way to win here.

Honestly, my hat goes to Bethesda. Not only do they make incredible worlds for the player to explore, they're one of the few RPG developers that gives players the freedom to explore their worlds.

I want to say SE (square then) because of:

but, now all I can think of now is:

Bioware gets my vote, I enjoy more of their games than Bethesda.

Mass Effect doesn't count as RPG, neither does anything Square ever made.

Black Isle RIP.

I refuse to vote until CDProjekt Red is an option.
They have only two games under their name. Two good games, but they still need more to prove themselves.

Personally, I've never liked Bethesda that much, Square is going downhill with each game and I've lost every respect for Bioware after they made ME2 and Dragon Age 2. I'll just blame EA on that.

Bethesda everytime. The experience is great and the games are so deep, i still haven't found every little joke or Easter egg in Fallout 3 since it came out. Oblivion and Morrowind I haven't delved all the dungeons nor collected every amazing weapon.

Bethesda for life.

Neither, my favorite is Atlus known for the Shin Megami Tensei games.

Out of the those three options you gave. Bioware is my favorite.

Obsidian, CDProjekt Red & Eidos Montreal. Then Bethesda.

Bioware is all about 'the illusion of choice' now because they think this generation of gamers are to dumbass to notice the difference.

I would have to go with Bethesda simply because I like their games better. Mass Effect, KotOR & NWN are good and all, but I'd take Daggerfall, Morrowind or Oblivion over them any day.

I don't really play Square Enix games much so I feel as if they should be excluded from post of mine.

Ok, what have I played from the different companies?

BioWare: Neverwinter Knights, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2.

Bethesda: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas.

Square Enix: Uuuh... Kane & Lynch 2?

Take a wild guess which one of them I think is best. :p

could be petty here and say its not a bethesda game. They merely published it

Square gets my vote because of the rpgs of the past. Chrono Trigger, FF1-8, Dragon Quest and Terranigma out weigh all the modern RPGs of the other two companies. Dissidia and KH are the only good things they have had in a long time.

Out of those, I'm going with BioWare. Square-Enix has given me some of my all-time favorite games in the past, but hey, Baldur's Gate II. Don't see the appeal in Bethesda's games, though. So.. dull. Same dungeons and caves copypasted all over the place. Same awful writing. Same hideous character models.. I just don't get it.

[sub]As indicated by my avatar: if you'd allowed me more choices I would say Atlus.[/sub]

I like Bioware, but not because of Mass Effect. Mass Effect was great, but it's a obvious rip off of the best Bioware RPG, Knights of the Old Republic. Then they decided they didn't want to pay to use Star Wars in their game so they changed all the terms. I'd rather see another KOTOR made by Bioware because Obsidian kind of screwed up KOTOR 2.

i agree on one part here, but i am curious how much of this is the fact that they work for the evil taskmasters at EA.

ME and DA:O were much more inline with bioware releases. they were rich and had complexities to them.

While the sequels essentially bastardised both franchises.

also interestingly that before EA became their publisher they had only ever made 1 sequel to a property they had created(Being Baldur's gate 2) any other games that contained sequels normally were handled by obsidian.

though there downfall in terms of quality can also be associated with the much larger and more casual playerbase on the consoles. Which tend to demand a action based experience over anything else.

curious how much is their fault technically speaking and how much was budget/delivery date.

we're never going to see another KotOR now that TOR is being made just like we haven't and probably wont see warcraft 4 for a long time

I hate Final Fantasy and JRPGs in general so Square Enix is out. As for the others Bethesda made Morrowind (one of my favourite games of all time), Daggerfall, Oblivion whereas Bioware made Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins and KotOR. Judging from this I'm going to have to go with Bethesda because they don't work for EA.
