The red shirts on Star Trek. By blindly walking into danger and dieing in mass quantities they saved the crew from all potential dangers by letting them walk over the problem on a bridge of bodies. We salute you you brave nameless individuals! *throws red shirt off a cliff*

None of these guys. It has to be Garrus Vakarian. I mean, just look at him.

How can this guy NOT be a badass?

I personally think that Halo's Spartans are the superior Super Soldier. They may not be quite as tough as space marines, have the huge arsenal of Starship Troopers, or be as expendable as Stormtroopers, but they are much better rounded than any other. They are crazy deadly with or without suits, are easily smarter than any of the others, and can use just about any weapon without much trouble.
I actually think that Imperial Stormtroopers (Warhammer 40k, not Star Wars) would probably be an even match for Spartan IIs, and definitely able to hold their own against Spartan IIIs.

My brother and I had an hour-long discussion about it, and eventually agreed that the outcome would depend on the situational context.
Maybe, they are very similar, both in origin and purpose. Despite that I think the Genetic Mods and Armor of a Spartan III(even the armor used by most of them, not the Noble variants) push them ahead. Though without the armor it would definitely be an interesting fight. Probably just depending on who gets the drop on who.

Because he doesn't have flexibility.

Shame on everyone who got that joke. :D

Very situational.

If they were stripped of all equipment and forced to fight in a cage match then the Astartes (Space Marine) would win- he's far physically superior than the rest. 8 foot tall, 2 hearts, three lungs, self clotting wounds, immune to concussions, can crush a man's skull with his bare hands, strengthen bones and can spit acid.

If they had their equipment and it was conventional ground warfare then the Mobile Infantry (Starship Troopers) would win, their equipment outclasses the others in terms of sheer destructive potential.

Of course if it was say a war in space then the Space Marines would win as the Imperium's ships are better by magnitudes than any other group's on that list. That and Space Marines are truly awesome at boarding actions.

The Stormtroopers would win unless the Spartans were protagonists.

How does one destroy an entire city while inflicting minimal casualties?

They do it in chapter one of the book.

Mini-nuking essential facilities, throwing bombs that say "I'm a bomb! Run away!" and only aiming for important targets.

They didn't destroy it, but they crippled it pretty well and I think only lost one man. They killed a few enemy soldiers, but mostly as collateral damage.

I feel this is going to degenerate to MI versus space marines. I'd put my money on the MI for nearly any sort of battle, but I don't think they have numbers with for a prolonge war with Space Marines, though trying to recocile their two universe is enough to turn you cross-eyed.

I don't know the Navy that backs up the MI are pretty advanced, probably not as terrifying as Imperium ships but they do have the benefit of FTL travel that doesn't expose you to demon portals.

And that is a rather large advantage.

Although if the MI ended up in anywhere connected to the Warp they'd go down fast. Inside the suits they're just soldiers.

Space Marines. Lorewise, there is no contest.

Superb armor, superb weaponry, great armored support.

I probably would have said "Mechwarriors", but the Marauders in Starship Troopers were similar so that's my choice. Besides, that book was absolutely amazing.

Didn't any of you play Crysis?
Oh man, completely forget about that.

Then again a regular spec ops guy in a Nanosuit wouldn't do much damage against a Space Marine for instance, but a totally badass regular USMC grunt in a Nanosuit who does incredibly badass things against all odds whose name happens to be Alcatraz?
Man, put him in a room with all the others and their life expectancys go down dramatically.

no way you can compare any of the others to a space marine, they are walking tanks with the agility of an acrobat and guns bigger then the others on the list. your talking about 30,000 years of development (missing out the last 10,000 because no real development happens) thats a lot longer then anything else really, i guess you could argue stormtroopers but at the end of the day they are just crack soldiers

Space Marines hands down. As for which space marines in particular? SPACE WOLVES!

Take everything over the top said about the Adeptus Astartres so far and add a heaping scoop of viking. Simmer, let cool, feeds a family of five. :p
