Rex looks military. It's got angles and stuff that just look like they're designed to deflect shit.

Also, you spend twenty minutes fighting that thing and firing rockets at it
and it turns out you did fuck all to the radome, it had to get shot by Grey(Gray?) Fox's Plasmagun thingy
and you only really managed to 'kill' it
when you shot up the cockpit so much that the controls stopped working
.

As opposed to RAY, who died in, like, 5 missiles from Mr Smegma-crazy, Raiden.

Rex looks like a badass walker than can crush you and probably will. Also, Rex is latin for king.

Ray is "A drop of golden sun." Not nearly as deadly. Also, Ray comes from Metal Gear Solid 2.
I dunno. Have you ever been touched by a drop of golden sun? It probably burns. All of you.

And MGS2 is a solid game, I replayed it recently with fresh eyes and found myself empathising with Raiden a fair bit. Oh sure, he's got girly hair, but the whole exercise was a massive precursor to MGS4 and the final codec call was full of mindfucks.

I really suggest you go back to it and play it through again. I believe that - like Problem Solving - incubation can make games better for a second playthrough.
I never really understood all the hate against Raiden. Sure, he whined, but I'm pretty sure most of us would be doing much more than that in his situation. Remember, it was his first real mission, and the mission looked much simpler at the beginning. Sure, he probably expected it to get a bit more complicated, but finding out that his superiors new it was a fuckload more complicated than it at first seemed and his superiors knew and didn't tell him would shake anyone's confidence. That, and seeing two entire squads of SEALS killed by a vampire and a woman who can't be shot using a railgun, respectively.

REX was a sexy brick with a railgun and a face.

RAY was a pansy, girl-bot with wing-things.

Plus, REX is easily the more powerful of the two.

Neither could beat Jehuty or Anubis though.
Especially not Jehuty.

Best. Mech. Ever.

I like RAY from MGS4, but I also like REX from MGS1, based off of those pictures.

(I've never played a MGS game.)

Are we talking Jehuty, Jehuty 2.0 or Naked Jehuty? (Not that any Metal Gear could even hold a fair fight with any of those, just wondering which you consider the best).

Well Naked Jehuty is the most powerful of the lot of course (infinite sub gauge, largest damage) but I always preferred the aesthetics of Jehuty 2.0. The three 'bits' swirling made for cool animations, it has Zero Shift and it still retains the look of the original Jehuty - only with slighty different tint.

And as anyone can tell you, appearance is important. I'd roll in Jehuty 2.0 over Naked Jehuty.

And because I just found it, here's another picture of REX

With Snake apparently attempting a Falcon Punch.

We can all talk about this tell a REAL metal gear is made, but take this into your minds people, you only beat REX once (ok, twice if you played the remake) but you beat like, 10 RAYs, As Raiden no less, before he became the badass unkillable cyborg ninja

To be fair, Raiden canonically was meant to be a bit of a badass. He does out-sword a dual wielding Solidus (Perfect clone of Big Boss) who can also fire missiles and make giant flame trails. It's not as if he was a slouch when it came to combat before he became the cyborg ninja in 4.

Child soldier, then put through a crapload of VR training. His hair was girly, but his skills sure were not.

REX is just more angry looking and intimidating than RAY, although they are both cool.
My favorite not in your list is probably the Shagohod because it's name sounds like it should be in an Austin Powers movie.

Anyone else find it a little funny that REX looks better in the MGS1 picture in the first post than in SSBB?
Nice pic though

Dont get me wrong here, i like Raiden, im probley one of the only people who did, come to think about it, but you have to admit that he wined a little too much, and btw, if the sword was so important, why did they give it to you about 15 minutes before the final boss fight (Im not counting cut sceans here)

Because Olga was using it 'til then. She couldn't exactly give it to you.

And he had fair cause to whine to be fair, his girlfriend was pestering him, his commanding officer never game him a straight answer, nothing seemed like it was real, all he ever got was lies from his 'allies' and half-truths from his enemies.

Plus, it was his first mission that wasn't VR/suppressed child soldier memories.
And then he was almost forced to shoot the President of the US!
Not to mention all the malarky with the Patriots that he found out about.

He wasn't Snake, a veteran of Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land - and his complaints were fairly well justified.

Plus he's voiced by Quinton Flynn, which gives him points in my book.
