I think i related to Squall more than Cloud, my hair is dark.

Sorry, for some real input Squall seemed to be more of a leader, and FFVIII rocked due to the junction system.

He aint lyin'.

Squall can only maintain a conversation with an unconscious woman.
So that's why I like him so much. But seriously much prefer Squall, bias of course since FF8 as the first one I played and the gun blade is such a cool weapon and his finisher was epic and i got really good it so could do massive damage with it.

I win, because I'm the player and I decide how everyone moves. And since I hate Squall and want him to die, I make Cloud kill him with his defenses wide open, and then Cloud takes on Ruby Weapon all on his lonesome.

DANCE, PUPPETS! DANCE!!!

The Best is Zack Fair by far. Cloud wouldn't be anything if not for Zack. He is the reason Cloud became the Badass that he is.

Cloud: Cold and self-centered. Overrated with an overpowered super move. Angst ridden and lacks personal depth due to lack of dialogue showcasing his actual emotions. Everything he said was either the obvious or negative (He even lacked Inner monologues). Even his 'Moment to shine' inspirational speech was rather lame.
Thats exactly what i think when i hear girls yelling C1_000UD!
I couldnt really see how people saw him as anything else than a dumb japanese doll, who's dead inside. I like the game however.

But yes, i'd go for Squall, he looks more human, and speaks more human. Easier to identify with. Oh- and the Gunblade. pewpew

But that isn't what you were "just" saying, it's ONE of the things you were saying. The easiest one to defend I might add. And it is ridiculous to say that a character without a story is better than another with a "bad" one (even though I can think of a couple of people who would disagree with you), because even though it is "bad" at least it exists.
Look, let's just put the bullshit to bed, I HATE BOTH CLOUD AND SQUALL. They're both little *****-men with stupid haircuts and equally stupid overcompensatory swords. I would relish in seeing them both die in horrible, blinding pain, most likely involving Bahamut and a roasting spit.

both are pretty cool, but squall's a whiney git, whereas cloud's just confused. i'd still like a gunblade. but the buster sword is just awesome. so yeah cloud. just.

Would have to go with Squall, I liked the whole change from brooding loner to leader. Also the scene very near the beginning of FFVIII where Squall and Quistis are walking down the hall and Quistis is taking the piss out of Squall was rather amusing, I couldn't help thinking I would react in a similar manner.

Final Fantasy has always had its ups and downs with characters, but I've always been under the impression that these two characters were the most poorly written in the series. They lack personality, they lack characterization. They can flit schizophrenically between between someone willing to help every Tom, Dick and Harry because its "the right thing to do" and helping no one because they're only in it for themselves. They aren't well-written characters, they have moments of true unlikeability. I choose neither for that reason. If you look at pretty much any final fantasy apart from those (with 1 being the exception), every main character is fairly well characterized. Final Fantasy VI was the master of this, but that, in part, had to do with a lack of having one main character that is the main character for the entire game.

I've always been under the impression that their side characters are way more interesting in 7 and 8. Cid and Barret were more interesting than Cloud. Hell, Cait Sith was more interesting than Cloud. And while I'm less familiar with the character from 8, I can guarantee that enjoyed Quistis' character infinitely more than Squall. No, this is not a case of me thinking they're emo, its a case of them being hollow, boring and poorly written. The next time a game wants to create a a character whose brooding, with a mysterious past, can they not use these two guys as the archetype?

EDIT: Also, in terms of main characters, Ramza has always been my favorite.

I voted for Squall because I identified with him a bit more while playing through FFVIII, and I even looked a little bit like him once.

However, Balthier is way more awesome than either Cloud or Squall and was the only reason I didn't hate 12 for Vaan. And I thought Tidus was bad...
I thought Tidus started off annoying, but I do have to credit him with growing into a strong character at the end. He proves himself truly fearless by the end. I won't go into how fearless for fear of fearful spoilers which I fear will get me fearfully blocked by the most fearful moderators fearful lightning sent down from their most fearful clouds... did I over do it?
No, IF you were over doing it, you'd have ended that bit with the word fear. Just as a single word sentence after asking if you over did it. Fear
