Who do you think is the best Joker? Cesar Romero(60s TV Series), Jack Nicholson(Batman 1989), or Heath Ledger(Dark Night)?

While I think all of them were fantastic, I like Jack Nicholson the best. Mostly because his portrayal found a great balance between the zanyness of Romero, and the outright insanity of Ledger.

EDIT: Animated doesn't count

Mark motherfucking Hamill.

And shame on you for not including his name, even if it was only the cartoon series Joker and the one from Arkham Asylum.

I love the guy, but I am only counting people how portrayed him in live action.

Mark Hamill as best overall actor for joker, best live action.... I'm kind of split, all of them are good at different aspects, but going to have to go with Ledger for the nice sociopath performance.

I liked the way the joker was portrayed when Nicholson did it.

Heath ledger did a good job, I just didn't like the script as much.

Nicholson. All three were great, but I just prefer the classic looking Joker over Ledger and I've never seen Romero's version.

The fact that Hamill's joker could be so light-hearted, so entertaining and fun... luring you in, and yet turn on a dime and kill everyone in the room... Truly that is the most terrifyingly defining Joker trait. *That* guy could be anywhere, The Murderer who can look like your next-door neighbor.. Real people who have a similar bi-polar kind of mental state.

Comparing Nicholson to Ledger, is really about comparing the directors/writers/ entire theme of the movie. Burton went for classic style, Nolan went for realism and practicality. The age-old debate of style over substance.

It is quite impressive, that HeathLedger!Joker, sitting still, in a police station.. could still scare the pants off you...

He was the Joker of the 1960's Batman tv series with Adam West and Burt Ward.

All of them were great in completely different ways, you really cannot compare the three.

Jack Nicholsons Joker was my favourite, he had that natural creepy smile and voice.

Mark Hamill is the obvious answer.
LIVE ACTION JOKER!! Come on people.

OP: Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight held that entire movie together, it's a shame that such a great performance will never be seen again. I prefer him to Hamill anyway because I never liked the animated show, even as a kid. Don't know why.

Well, seeing as animated doesn't count [small][sub][small][sub](making the obvious choice unavailable)[/sub][/small][/sub][/small] I'm goin with either The Guy who Overdosed (Heath) or the guy in the movies I saw as a kid (Jack)

[sub]Bloody Hamill hater[/sub]

Mark Hamill is not in your list and the 90's cartoon Joker is the only Joker I recognize as official(not a comicbook reader, sorry). Heath Ledge did a good job though and got the sociopath aspect across though so I'll give my vote to him.

Ledger's best at live action, but none of them hold a candle to Mark Hamill.

Heath Ledger in my opinion. He was the only reason why The Dark Knight made the money that it did. It's such a shame that he isn't able to do a follow up.
