Sauron is definitely the most fitting for the title of Dark Lord, both politically and personally. Merely touched by things he creates, or even things his minions create, will begin to corrupt you to your own darkness, and he is the most active conqueror out of all of these.

Then again, Sauron is nothing more than the sole surviving henchman of Morgoth, who deserves the title far more (Quite possibly the second or third most powerful being in the entire Tolkien mythology).

I was gonna say something along the lines of Vader blew up a whole planet! whatcha got on that, Voldy?

Then I remembered Vader didn't much care for the Death Star, that was all Tarkin, so I'm going with the 15,000 year old ex-god Sauron.

He literally undid the creator's visions because while being a virtue of order and alignment, he felt Morgoth had a better system for that through tyrany.

(That and the thousand-years of darkness kinda work in his favor)

Sauron isn't a dark lord. He just wants out of the land of infertile land and volcanoes. The TRUE dark lord is Ganondorf because he is so damn evil for no apparent reason.

Link: "Why are you trying to destroy Hyrule?"
Ganondorf: "Ionno. Bored, I guess"
By that logic, the Dark Lord is clearly Robotnik.

Cthulu? Or maybe the dark lord hasn't been revealed yet?
Is Cthulhu really known as the Dark Lord?

I've heard he/she/it referred to as the unspeakable horror from the depths, the whisper from the darkness etc. But never really as the Dark Lord.
*shrugs* I don't know but I figured I'd throw Cthulu in there cause it amused me

Sauron. Imposing, yes. Powerful, no doubt. Dead and buried, but STILL a viable threat. That's definite Dark Lord material for me.

Based on all the shit I had to go through in WoW to actually get through ICG, I say the Lich King deserves it. It took us, with ten level 85's, 20 tries to finally get through his boss fight.
/facepalm
I swear, my guild sucks at PvE

If !Benjamin 'Yahtzee' Croshaw! is such a Dark Lord, then why did you spell his name wrong. You couldn't get away with that with a proper Dark Lord. It's in the handbook and everything.
There's a handbook?! Oh crap... I'm screwed....

Least I imagin him as the Dark Lord. Ohh man could you imagine if he was only the Dark Lords messenger. That would be very frightful.

Having watched more Slayers than I probably should have, my immediate 'fill in the blank' for "Dark Lord" is "Shabranigdo".

I voted Sauron, but now I want to change my answer.
I choose the Doctor, from Doctor Who. Why? He's extremely powerful, can manipulate time and space like a god, and is considered to be a fierce, evil warrior in some cultures. He's also "getting too big for the universe".

EDIT: Oh, and he can defeat an army just by talking to them, raise one just by being there, and wiped out his entire species AND worst enemies in a fancy double-genocide.

So yeah, he has the potential to be the Darkest Lord.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the imps.
Bloody hell, he is an evil overlord himself.

Given that Sauron was able to cause so much destruction and desolation by being influenced with only a fraction of Morgoth's power, who required being cast into the void itself just to stop him from pretty much destroying everything, heck even that won't last forever, Morgoth WILL break free and pretty much bring the apocalypse before he is actually killed by a resurrected Turin. The fact that even the void itself won't hold this guy in forever says enough.

Morgoth.
