Maybe I'm just the odd man out on this issue, but I feel like so much more could be done with the current technology.
No way, that is pretty much wrong by fact, the only reason games these days have seemingly better graphics is by them cutting corners (such as the low field of view in CoD MW3, which limits what's on screen at any given time), which they have gotten very good at over the years, but think about it, would you trust the technology in a PC from 2003?

Yeah, it's time. It's passed time, actually. The consoles of a previous gen can be supported a good while after the new generation has begun. Look at the PS2. You don't have to buy a console on launch. I certainly won't, as I don't see the point in buying a gaming machine until it has enough games to justify a purchase (the magic number for me: 12). Start the new generation, the cheap and patient ones of us can abstain for buying them until we're ready.

Personally, I hate it every time a new console generation comes around. Just as I've gotten comfortable with the current line of consoles and stuff, they go the throw all that out the window and bring out the new stuff which I usually can't afford right away; and by the time I can, out comes the next one. So no, I'm not looking forward to any new fucking consoles.

While I fear change I don't think I would deny it. I loved my Xbox but I jumped on the 360 band-wagon pretty damn quick. The main thing that I'm worried about though is the possibility of consoles requiring an internet connection to play games and, games themselves no longer being on a physical medium. When I buy a game I want something to show for it after all. Other than that change is generally...well, hit or miss honestly. I can't wait for the Wii-U because even though there's a strong emphasis on motion controls you can't ignore the stick/button layout on the tablet, always a good sign I'd say. I'm a bit worried about what the new Xbox will be though...the 360 controller is generally regarded as a top-3 controller of all time and the rumors of a kinect-exclusive console is a bit worrying. That's all I've got though, honestly.

Yes, Sweet zombie Jesus yes. I want devs to start pushing boundaries again. I'm tired of games using DX9. Not to mention all the other reasons regarding processing power, cost etc.

Consoles desperately need an upgrade. They can keep a similar architecture they already have, just beef them up a bit, mainly more video and ram memory, c'mon, the 360 has 512 mb of ram and my crappy PC has 3 gb.

I'd say that they need to keep the architecture similar, just upgrade a couple of things and you're done!, better and crispier games for another 10 years!.

Because new consoles are fucking expensive, and the worlds still sort of in that recession.
Also current gen games can go for another solid 2 years, 2014 seems like a reasonable amount of time to introduce a new generation of consoles.
Also it seems the only people who want new consoles are PC gamers, and their only justification is usually just "better graphics" We've reached that point where we dont necessarily need better graphics because most games already look amazing.

Ten?! God, no. Consoles should have a life cycle of no more than five years.

I do and I don't want a new one. With the rage about motion controls I'm worried that they might become the selling point for the next gen and I really don't like motion controls. But having more power will give developers more room to make better games so that's a definitely plus.

Actually, the reason I want new ones is more to do with processing power and I play games on my PC when I have the choice to. When current games make the consoles chug, despite all the tricks used to render less like narrow FoV and large portions of a screen being covered up by weapons consoles still slow down to near unplayable levels when graphical rendering is pushed.

This is not a "better graphics" argument as much as it is a "consoles need more processing power" argument

Notice how I used the word usually. I know that theres a good reason for PC gamers to want a new console but in most cases it usually amounts to them wanting better graphics.
Also as a console gamer its hard to feel sympathy for PC gamers, I dont want you guys to the short end of the stick, but I really dont have the cash to buy a new console anytime soon

A new hardware generation means games get EVEN MORE expensive to make, meaning more rehashes, less innovation, and oodles of overpriced DLC. Fuck it, I'll just stick with the indie scene.

Then suck it up, so what if YOU don't have the cash right now, just don't buy it till you do. Just because you personally cannot get something RIGHT NOW shouldn't be a reason to make those who can get one right away and those who have even a basic gaming computer, who've had to keep playing a majority of games made for hardware from 2004, be unable to enjoy the emergence a new generation in console technology.

Not yet. I'm still enjoying xbox live and don't want to waste money on a console when we could wait for something better.

I understand that. I just wanted to give an alternative to what you considered the normal argument for new consoles.

With the speed that computer technology develops however I highly doubt we will see longer console generations then this one. IMO this one even ran on a little to long and it made console exclusives suffer for it. Five year intervals between new consoles seems about right to keep everything up to date and not fall into the territory of obsolete technology for the games of the current era

Yes god forbid Id rather come out with the better deal, what a stupid way of thinking that no one else shares obviously. Its not just me, a lot of console gamers dont want a new system because they dont have the money and theyre fine with the games we have now.

Besides a new console generation wouldnt really change anything Im betting, it would be good for a year or so then PC gamers would be back to crying about how much console gaming is holding them back, not just that but its also a bad business decision for companies like Sony and Microsoft, can they really risk selling a new console, knowing fully well theres a good chance of it completely bombing? May I remind you that for the majority of its life the PS3 has actually been making a loss? The only thing that would definitely change things for PC gamers is if more developers started making PC exclusive games, and if C ports were made with a PC in mind.

Do i care if they come out with the next generation consoles soon? No.
Would i spend my money on them if they come out? Absolutely not.

Every single game ive played on the 360/PS3 has been a disappointment for me, especially after the awesome games on the ps2 (and some for the xbox, although never got into many games there...except for kotor, i love you!!!). The next generation, especially when they first come out, will not have any games that interest me, and if they do, will most likely be too concerned with "harnessing the power" of the new shiny console.

Here's hoping that im suprised by the games for the new consoles, but im not holding my breath. Besides, i have a gaming computer, so im good :D

Console upgrades help the developers and inspire them to make better games every year. This also means that it helps consoles get new concepts like motion sensing and simulation.
