This is a tough one, but that is the greatness of the show. Despite the fact that 99.9% of Death Note related deaths by Light were because they were criminals, is it still morally correct?
I believe Team L should have won because ultimately Near sextuple bluffed Light and eventually was the smarter person. Initially I agreed with Team Light, but as the show progressed I realised that the only 'real' ending that could possibly be fathomed was for him to be caught... and some of the questionable choices that were made on Light's part made me dislike him.

I started out rooting for Light, mostly because I thought that would make for an incredibly interesting end, but then he started going batshit crazy and I started rooting for L. Then along came Mello and Near, and I started rooting for L's team, not Near or Mello or Light. They all started to piss me off.

I think it should have ended with the death of L
Light even summed it up
"without L, it's just no fun anymore"
they took out the thing that made it so clever and great
Because we only had Lights side of things
Where as before we had L's insight and the ever closer come uponce of light
Also at least how L figures things out is Plausable
Near just says
"i think the new L is Kira"
it's like wheres your proof dimwad!
Also i didnt like near and mello
they just didnt live up to L's standards

I slightly lost interest in the anime when Near and Mello were introduced...
They both look and sound like girls, yet have an army of crazy fan girls.

I liked both L and Light. Near and Mello weren't a match for L, but weren't bad.
The very end of the plot, though, I take issue with.

It's like Moron Light from a parallel universe switches places with Genius Light right around when they set up the final meeting. I don't mind Light getting beat, but the way it happened was just wrong.
Even if the whole opposing team were dead, it would only take a hidden camera broadcasting onto the Internet, and both Light and Mikami would be proven guilty beyond all doubt. Even without a camera, if even a single person going to the meeting left behind a note about the meeting detailing the participants, how would Light explain walking out alive while the rest are dead? Coming out as "Kira" is obviously not an option, since that would just get him killed without warning by any number of people.
With a better ending I think the show would warrant a 9.5 or so; with this, 8.5. Still a great show right up till the end, but man, what a huge letdown.
