This isn't the first time John Marston has been called a great character, he was cool sure but he didn't really do much. He started the story looking for his family, and ended with his family, (granted there was that ending, and while it was great it didn't change my view of him all that much) and there wasn't much development between. He never convinced me that was must of anything really. Really Bonnie Mcfarlane was the only character in that game that actually showed an interesting or likable personality.

(rant aside)

I voted for Thane, because his back story fascinated me and he along with Garrus and Tali were the most interesting characters in the game, who made me want to talk to them. I talked to Mordin a bit but never got around to that singing part...

Deathwing, because he toasted Stormwind and goes around constantly nuking entire zones for fun.

Lol.

I hate when you're asking for "the best" of anything and do a poll. There is no way eight slots is enough to fit all of them in.

OT: John Marston.

Proving to the world that you can set the world record for "Biggest Traffic Hazard" before you even crash.

John Marston, without a doubt. Interestingly enough he is counterpointed by Jack Marston, perhaps the worst character of 2010.
Spoiler alert. But aye, John Marston. Awesome character.
Jack appears as an NPC first, so that statement was intended to be taken for either of his roles without being specific.

Noble 6 from Reach(Because he is me, and I'm just so awesome)

Really though, I'd give it to second to Marston. He fits my type, especially in Undead Nightmare.

I would have given it to Ezio Auditore, but he couldn't wait for 2010 to hit so...

A tie between most ME2 characters, especially Thane (despite me being meh about him, he's still a solid and extremely well-written character), Mordin and Legion.

I also agree on all the criticism on John Marston. He really had a lot of potential, but in the end he was inconsistent as hell. A real shame.

John Marston; sympathetic, he's got fears, desires, goals. Sure, I love Bayonetta for its amazing gameplay and just how over-the-top it is, but in terms of how effective the narrative was with the character, here's a guy, in the end of the Old West, and he just fits so perfectly. I guess it's because he's the most human, most nuanced in development...you know, provided you don't murder entire towns and then he claims he's trying to escape that part of his life.
