I think it is players choice on who will die. If Valve was to say Francis died a lot of Francis fans would be sad and some may end up not liking Valve anymore for killing off their favorite character.

Leaving it up to the players is the best because that way their is no official character death confirmed by Valve. Just a character death confirmed by the players.

I'd say Bill, sure he's an old war veteran, but I could see himself doing something noble and making the other survivors go on without him while he does a last stand.

I think that....Bill will seem to be the one that dies, but he'll pop back up at the last second while Francis gets killed.

This is what I think. It will be Bill except they will not show the death. Then later he will come back having killed all the zombies who attacked him because he is Bill. He is the Chuck Noris of the group. The unstoppable super man.

Read that news story closely. Yes, you DO have to kill someone off in-game. Valve will have a canon version, but players are free to choose who dies in the L4D1 DLC - it just won't have any effect on The Passing.
