you are the wrong one, why is a human life more important then that from an other animal. humans just think there the most important because they are the smartest and think everything on this earth is theres. and i use the term smartest litely. because you can see how smart people are when there still is religion.
Humans think they are the most important because they actually can. I don't see cows building cars. We are vastly more important.

Also, why do people keep on insisting in mentioning religion in everything? I don't care if you're atheist, just don't be an anti-theist. Sure, overly religious people are annoying, but anti-theists (such as yourself) are considerably louder.

If you want equal respect for all, then we'll have to start killing and eating people too.
Or stop eating animals...
That wouldn't stop other animals from killing other animals.
I never said that it would.
I love how you cut out the most important part of my post :p.

Edit: Sorry for the double post :(

it's deciding that another person's personal attachment to their furry life-addition trumps your human rights.
You have no right that demands I save you. Your right to life is to prevent me killing you, but does not require that I endanger myself. To do so would imply your life if more valuable than mine.
What the hell? I never said that XP! How is my name on that quote post?

Sorry, buddy, but you'll be dead. Sadly, I don't care about you, since your death doesn't affect me in any way. My pets, on the other hand, I know and love. It's frankly a very easy equation.

This is of course situation dependent. If a human and a cat are hanging from a cliff and I only have time to save one...it would of course be the human.

I voted to let the OP die simply because I read the question as a hypothetical. Would I let my cat die to save the life of someone in the world I don't know...absolutely not. Several people die in the world every minute and their deaths have no meaningful impact on me...the OP's in this case would be no different.

You edited your post after I quoted it.

I can't control if an animal chooses to respect another animal, I can only choose if I do. Ideally, yes, all living creatures would respect all other living creatures, nothing would ever die, and everyone would be eternally happy. Life doesn't work like that though.

I'd kill my pet. It would break my heart, but a human life is more sacred than the life of a cat.

I'm not killing you... I'm just not choosing to save you..... don't take it the wrong way, my dog wins this one.

I don't have any pets. I do have a plush tiger, though. He's been with me for many, many years. You, I don't know at all. When it comes time to sleep the next night, I won't wonder where you are. And while I could probably sleep without my tiger, I don't think I'd want to try.

Sorry about that. Your post came so far after I made that edit that I assumed you cut down the post like your previous quote of mine.

You're right, life doesn't work like that. Which is why we don't respect all animals equally, and most certainly not to the degree of humans. Plus, think about this: do you like it when other people disrespect you? Nope. Animals don't respect us, so why should we respect them? That actually has an answer, it's because unlike those lesser animals, we have an identifiable conscious, which is the main reason we can discuss this question in the first place. I definitely don't think animals should be mistreated. I do however see the reasoning behind their use as a food source.

I'd choose my pet because I don't know who you are and I didn't read your OP. And I doubt anything that it said would have changed my mind.
