Obviously the abstinence supporters. The idea that people should hold back on the most essential part of the human species is stupid.

I also do think sex is the greatest thing evar!

If its done with someone you love and done right, its probably the most exquisite euphoria and closest connection you'll ever feel to another human being in your life.

But in turn if done for the wrong reasons/wrong person etc it will just make you feel like shit.

Abstinence strikes me as the most ignorant thing.
Penting up a natural urge can really only lead to aggressive outbursts.

I voted for abstinence, not because I'm a particularly big "sex" guy, but because I generally ascribe to the Freudian theory, which is basically that almost all psychosis and mental conditions have something to do with sex.

I'm not endorsing orgies in the street, but history and personal experiences have largely proved that the more sexually repressed, the more incompatible socially, the more boring, and the more likely to be a serial rapist and murderer. I'm serious on that last point, because sexual repression means you can't get laid in a healthy and in an emotionally and socially beneficial way, which means that that frustration is going to worm its way out in a much less constructive manner. Truth is, sex is central to us, it's what makes us work and live, biologically. You can't suppress that reproductive tendency without damaging something somewhere else.

Besides, abstinence is woefully unsuccessful at stopping sex, as subscribers to that sort of program can't actually be turned off of sex subconsciously, so they find loopholes like anal and oral to get around it, and still fuck.

They are both idiots, though the people that spread abstinence are like that kid that has the parents who are filthy fucking rich convince the other kids parents through bribery that the other kids(Sex is the best thing ever) that they should like him.

That said, an informed public is a public that can run itself better.

Pretty soon those health and safety tards will start to really take over schools. For example, my school of nearly 1000 students has no shop class. What so ever. Technology class is the closet thing, and most of the time is spent in the classroom.

Abstinance supporters, they spread ideas that just get kids in trouble over time.

To respond to people who say sex is the greatest thing ever because of the bonding that comes with it, assuming it is someone you love, when I originally wrote about those who speak of sex as the greatest thing ever, I'm refering to the classic high school kid types who don't do it for the reason of love but instead because they believe it is the greatest thing ever as an act and do it with whoever and whatever just to brag about it.

Also, once again coming from someone who has had sex, I'd have to say I've probably bonded more with my girlfriend when we lie awake at night with one another and just talk. Sure I felt like it was a great way to express my love, but I truly think there are better ways.

They are both personal opinions, you shouldn't bother anyone who gives their opinion politely.

I believe in abstinence because I feel that sexual acts outside of marriage are somewhat wrong.
Abstinence doesn't always mean "sex is disgusting" it might mean that I love only one person and I preserve myself for that one person.

I'm probably the in the middle ground. I mean I don't think that 13 yr old should be having sex. But theres no way your waiting till you get married to have sex, I mean good luck if you can.

Speaking as an unfortunate product of the American education system, where some schools do resort to abstinence only sex education, let me be as blunt as I can in saying that those who advocate only for abstinence are not just ignorant, but are doing a LOT more damage than good.

While it is true that people shouldn't be running around having sex with every single thing that moves, there are some good reasons both to have sex before marriage, and to avoid the techniques that are used by abstinence only advocates.

1) Speaking from a psychologically theoretical standpoint, the romantic relationship can be broken down into three parts which all contribute to the relationship (as described in the Triangular Theory of Love). These are Intimacy (the feeling of closeness and friendship), Commitment (that one's obvious), and Passion (which ranges from physical attraction to physical action). The strongest relationships are built by combining the three elements, while the weakest rest only on one. That said, sexual compatability is an important part of a relationship. To paraphrase Lewis Black, anyone who decides to wait until marriage to have sex is a gambler on a level I can't even begin to comprehend. Sex is an important part of the expression of love in a relationship, if you wait until you're married and then find that you and your partner aren't compatible in bed, it can be worked around, but it's just not a plesant situation.

2) The fact is that people are going to have sex, and this is one area in which abstinence only advocates to a lot of damage. By refusing to teach children methods that prevent pregnancy and the spread of STD's, they fail to teach the children who inevitably will have sex how to protect themselves. If you want to see this in action, realize that the rate of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is rediculously higher in the US (where many schools do have abstinence only programs) than it is in European countries that have comprehensive sex ed programs. Kids here don't even realize that there are contraceptives that they can use if they have sex, which is why pregnancy rates and STD transmission rates are higher in the US (and even higher in Red states where abstinence only education is more common than in Blue states).

3) Abstinence only advocates frequently use religion to scare children away from sex, and this is one of the many areas in which religion causes a massive amount of psychological damage. Many children coming out of this system, are so disgusted with their own sexuality that they have to spend years in therapy to overcome the problems this sort of indoctrination causes, and some will even physically punish themselves, cutting or worse. Considering that sexual desires are inevitable, as we all have them, and that religious systems frequently threaten that those who give in to sexual desires will literally be tormented in fire for the rest of eternity, it is no small wonder that the pattern is as harmful as it is. The really sick thing is that adults do this to innocent children who blindly accept whatever they are told.

The only problem I see there is that marriage in this day and age doesn't really mean love anymore with the almost scary high number of divorces (or maybe that's just Canada). I completely respect your belief and opinion, and the first person I had sex with I honestly loved her with all my heart. We didn't get married and I don't even talk to her anymore, but in all reality, I have absolutely no regrets of losing my virginity to her.

Abstinence supports. After all, sexual frustrations causes a lot more viiolence than sexual freedom. After all you rarely hear about crimes being commited because someone is sexually satisfied.

From my area of education, we've been told that abstinence doesn't have any religious background, it's just a way of preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancies. Naturally there can be arguments, but that's besides the point.

I'm against the latter option moreso, only because of my personal experiences. I got sick and tired of hearing my friend's girlfriend belittle me for not having sex with my girlfriend after how many months we did date (we're over now, thank God :p). My friend and his girlfriend are the kind of relationships that are obsessed by sex because they have done it many times in a bed, outside, in his car, on my bed (probably :p), and more that I am not aware of.

I know a lot of people hit their sexual peak (ala really frickin' horny) in their teenage years but they have to realize that sex is a moment of passion and pleasure. I just despise seeing all these relationships where they don't even glance at neglected passion and spend all their time with the fat, zealous blob of pleasure.

Theres nothing wrong with abstinence. I think it is better to dissuade youngsters from secksing anything they can than to tell them its fine and to do it whenever they like.

Of course, telling people that sex is bad and naughty and disgusting is a good way to really damage someone (I can say this from experience, having been taught all my life that sex before marriage is immoral and sinful and so on, and now being almost completely unable to form relationships due to an ingrained fear of intimacy). However, abstinence for the right reasons is NOT being ignorant.

Neither extreme (when they ARE taken to the extreme) is healthy. Sex is natural, but I think it is also really important to reinforce that it also carries risks (pregnancy, STD's etc), and should not be done with wild abandon.

/rambling ramble.
Agreed, both sides can go too far, its all about finding that middle ground.

This carries about as much weight as an Intelligent Design Theorist saying that ID theory doesn't necessarilly entail the Christian deity. Anyone who has paid any attention to the debate knows better, ID theorists in this country are inevitably Christian, and abstinence only educators are inevitably coming from one of the Judeo-Christian root traditions (Judisam, Christianity, Islam, or Mormonism), no rational person would ever claim that abstinence only was the only option. A simple observation of the society we live in would be enough to lead one to conclude that people are going to have sex, so if you teach abstinence only then you leave those who will have sex without the knowledge they need to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies and STD's.

i like the idea of abstinance. some of you are taking it WAY out of context. apparently the educators you had set fire to you and rammed a chainsaw into your arm if you had sex.
